Yesterday I had my very first appt with a psychologist. It went surprisingly well! No meds yet, but we're going to rule out all medical issues first...
Extensive bloodwork for T3 and T4 to eval thyroid and also hormones (sent me to a specialist for that).
It felt so good just to "talk to someone" and let it allll out. We're going to do sessions once a week, until all of my labs come back.
I hope it works out!
Re: First therapy appt.
Good for you, a step in the right direction. Sounds like you feel comfortable with your therapist even with just the first visit--that's wonderful. I felt that way too after meeting with my therapist, and now 2 months into it, I easily can open up and we're really making so much progress
Keep up the good work
Thanks! You too!
It has been really hard for me to open up to anyone (even DH, he doesn't get it lol) and I even told the therapist that...he says to me "this is why I am what I am....I am hear to listen and help you feel better". And I love his approach...so many docs are so quick to Rx meds. I remember telling my OB about what I have been feeling, and the Rx pad flew out! I just kind of felt like there was so much more going on to jump to that conculsion. My therapist was telling me how his wife had PPD and PPA really bad and was on meds for quite some time...not getting any better after a year. So he did some research, and sent her off for a bunch of bloodwork. Her thyroid was soo off (she wasn't tested for T3 and T4 previously) and also she was on the wrong combo of birth control pills! She started thyroid meds and started hormonal therapy, and she is doing great now.
GL with your therapy!
Keep it up!
