What are your ideas for thoughtful less expensive gifts?
We have to buy for 4 sets of aunts and uncles that we only see at christmas...usually I just get them dinner gift cards for 20.00. Any other ideas.
My parents and his parents...We have a 50.00 limit per parent. I wish I could convince them not to do gifts...but they wont hear of it.
Re: small christmas budget?
You could make themed gift sets. Some ideas are:
Car wash gift set: bucket, car wash soap, sponges, towel, wipes for interior
Ice cream gift set: Nice ice cream scoop, two cute or festive ice cream bowls, toppings (hot fudge, caramel, sprinkles, nuts, etc.), cones. If you want to do this in the $50 price range Target had a cute ice cream maker for $19.99 you could add to it.
Popcorn gift set: Popcorn, popcorn bowls, popcorn cheese toppings, candy, maybe a DVD or netflix gift card.
Cupcake gift set: Cupcake recipe book, cupcake liners, frosting, and toppings. If you want to do this for the $50 price range add a babycakes cupcake maker.
Personalized items are always thoughtful. You could get a family personalized doormat from personalizationmall.com
For everyone who is not immediate family (siblings, parents, or children of siblings) then they get a box of handmade cookies this year. I am making cookie boxes for about 20 people (10 coworkers and 10 family member & friends) that we will see over the holidays. This includes aunts, uncles, and DH's grandma. We just cannot afford presents for everyone.
Do your relative drink wine? You could do a nice bottle of wine for $7-10 each. That would be cheaper than a gc.
Depending on what they like you could also do:
Coffee w/ two coffee mugs or travel coffee mugs
Cocoa w/ two mugs
Tea w/ two mugs
Bottle of wine w/ two wine glasses
Last year we all agreed on a only-kids Christmas because it was getting too out of control. Just too many brother in laws, aunts, uncles....
I do homemade gifts for grandparents and great grandparents. This year I got Crayola air drying clay (white) and will make a Christmas ornament with a hand print of DD and some paint. Last year I did a newborn photo of her framed.
what about home made items... breads, scones do you can? you could give them a home made jam and a loaf of bread.
Or like the pp wrote make a basket - say a coffee basket with flavored coffee's and creams, with scones and cookies.
IMO - I don't like getting two bowls, mugs, whatever dishes... they don't match my dishes and will end up in the rummage sale box shortly after I unwrap them. I like all the stuff though!
I'm sure someone has already mentioned gift baskets, but that's what we're doing for family this year. They are getting:
Homemade ornaments (from DS), Wallet sized photos of DS, Fuzzy Christmas Socks, Scarves that I got at a BOGO event, cookies, scones (my mom can't have sugar), those homemade turtles made with pretzels/pecans/rolos, and a big box of four kinds of specialty teas.
