Re: BF traveling moms

  • This is awful. I feel so bad for her. I was getting so made just watching the video.

Has anyone had issues flying out of IAH with pumped breast milk? We are traveling later this month and I have no idea what to expect.

  • This pissees me off! I completely understand her issues with TSA.

01272007 - I had no issues getting through IAH, its all the places coming back.  Jackson, MS is the worse! I flew out of Midland, TX, Shreveport, LA and Pensacola, FL with a few issues (want to see everything, wave their little piece of paper etc.) but nothing I couldn't handle.  In Jackson, MS the first time I went, the lady almost didn't let me keep my ice block - after much protest and explaining she finally let me have it.  The next time I went through there the guy opened my case and almost spilled all the containers out.  I about died.  A lady police officer was sitting there, and I told him that I would have to kill him if he spilt that because it was liquid gold.  She laughed at him, and told him to be careful with the gold.

I never was detained or anything.  If you have the ability to re-freeze your ice block I would recommend it. It will make your life a little easier.

  • I flew out of IAH B terminal to Charleston WV for thanksgiving with pumped milk. At IAH, I alerted them before the scanner and they put it through then did some test on the exterior of each bag. In Charleston coming home, the put it through but didn't test anything.

  • I haven't done it since the new full body scanners were in place, but I traveled by plane quite often while BF my son.  I've never had a problem, whether traveling with or without DS.  As a matter of fact, I had one TSA agent make a comment about how cool my pump was.  All in all, I bet I went on a dozen or so flights and always without incident.

good ole Jackson... always difficult.  YOU are supposed to open the bottles, not TSA, so that there is no chance of contamination/spills by them.  I had my hands full with C when I flew so the lady opened them for me but she was reluctant.  They also made me take C out of the all fabric sling (IAH did not)

IAH terminal B was a breeze over thanksgiving (though I've never asked for my bottles to not go through the xray machine).  They just put all 4 8oz bottles with gel ice pack through the conveyor belt then tested the outside of each bottle and ice pack with a little device.
