Babies: 3 - 6 Months

Should they still eat cereal after we introduce veggies?

We started on cereal a couple weeks ago, and they sort of liked it.  Mostly just playing around with it in their mouth and making a mess.

We moved onto sweet potatoes this weekend, and they LOVED them.  They ate quite a bit and actually "ate" like real little people.  (As opposed to the quasi-eating they did with cereal.)

My question is should we still eat cereal at all?  They don't seem to like it nearly as much, and now that I know they know how to eat, should we just keep with the veggies?

  • DS has cereal for breakfast every morning.  In addition to me adding it to his fruits and veggies to make them thicker for him since he does much better with a thicker consistency.

  • i have no idea. for now, i am mixing the veggies with the cereal because LO will not eat cereal plain.
  • I've been reading the book Super Baby Food and according to the author, your LOs should continue to eat grains as part of their diet. You could always mixed fruits and/or veggies into the cereal, like PP said, if they don't like it plain.
  • Cereal is fortified with iron, which they need after 6 months (unless you're FF w/ iron fortified formula I guess.  I'm not sure how that works)
