Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

Is this enough for DS's Christmas?

Ok, I still have $100 left to spend on William for Christmas after Kmart refunded me for losing my layaway. So far I have gotten him these items:

*My Pal Scout

*Grillin Grand Kitchen

*Build-a-Bear

*Stride-to-ride Dino

*FP Learning Barn

*Musical Table

*Chicken Dance Elmo

*Bounce N Giggle Pig

I know he'll only be 13 months old, but for some reason I want him to have a really good Christmas. We do have a lot of toys already, so I have thought about getting him clothes too. Any help? What do you guys think? Spend the rest of the money of DH and other family? Buy William more clothes or toys? Any toy suggestions? I've been looking for different toys but I dunno... TIA!

  • I think that sounds perfect.  If you have extra put it in his college fund or savings account.
  • Loading the player...
  • At 13mo he's probably going to be just as excited with the box one of those comes in.  Don't overspend.
  • I think that is perfect - we're only getting out LO 4/5 things.

Im didn't think about that... which reminds me that I have to open his savings account up. We have his money in our lock box... but that doesn't gain interest lol.

Yeah I know... it's a good thing the kitchen has a huge box!

  • WOW! Our budget is tight so E is getting a kitchen & chair from us. I also bought some books, a couple stuffed animals, and clothes for her. The rest of her presents are coming from family.

This put it into savings for him... he'd rather have the $$ later anyways... that is already a ton of presents.   Whenever my DD opens a present she wants to play with that one, she is not interested in any other wrapped gifts...

  • That sounds like plenty to me.  I personally would save it for other family members (DH and I aren't buying for each other this year because we are broke) but we did still want to get DD some good items.  She is getting a play kitchen and shopping cart w/food pieces, a pillow pet, weebles musical treehouse, clothes, books and stocking stuffers..Plus whatever her aunts/uncles get her and I know MIL is getting her a ball pit and my mom got her a see and say and some other things.  I figure that is plenty especially since she won't remember it anyway and would be happy with just the books.  We really can't overspend this year and I would rather save that for when she is older anyway : )

  • Honestly, in my opinion, that is MORE than enough toys for one kid for Christmas. If you want to spend the extra money, I would put it towards things like books, art supplies, a set of instruments (triangle, shakers, tambourine, etc), maybe some DVDs and CDs. If there's nothing more you can think of to get him, though, then there's really no reason to spend any more money just because you can.

This! And like pp, use what is left and put it in a savings account. More than likely your DS will love the bows/boxes anyways. We are not going overboard with DD..knowing that she will be spolied rotten by DH's family and mine.

  • I agree that sounds like a LOT to me. Save the other $100 in a college fund.

  • Thats a bit much IMO. But hey, if you got the money, go for it. Atleast those toys will grow with your LO.

Exactly this. mason is only getting three things from us because honestly, we are pretty covered in the toy department, and on his birthday he was wicked overwhelmed from the amount of presents..so...a basketball hoop, tent, and blocks will do us fine.
  • I would put it in savings.  If you are going to purchase more things I would focus on fine motor skill manipulatives such as shape sorters, blocks, pop beads, chunky wooden puzzles.  Those will focus his attention and keep him busy without noise and lights.

  • I agree with just about everyone else, that's MORE than enough. If you've got money to burn, how about donating some to a local Toys for Tots. I bet there are a lot of families whose kids are not going to be so lucky this Christmas.

You can also contact your local churches and adopt a family for the holidays.  Many families are struggling to give their children one present.

    These are excellent suggestions.

  • All I have to say is My Pal Scout....BEST toy I have bought Ds ever. HE LOVES it. He wakes up in the morning and plays with him for at least 30 minutes before he wants me to come get him.

This is what you should do. A "good Christmas" has nothing to do with the quantity of gifts under the tree.

My dd was 13 months at Christmas last year. We didn't even open half her gifts because she was too distracted by the boxes and wrapping paper. I even saved a few gifts for her from Christmas and gave them to her at Easter! Trust me, at 13 months, they have NO clue.
