Yucky pacifier issue

I noticed that a couple of DD's pacis look gross inside the nipple (we use MAMs). I've handwashed them, run them through the dishwasher and this morning I boiled them. There's still nasty stuff inside the nipple Ick! Do I just need to toss them or is there another way to clean them?

And has anyone had this issue before? Yuck.

Re: Yucky pacifier issue

  • Gross!  I've never had that issue, but we use Nuks.  I would probably toss 'em.

  • I just noticed a film on the inside of my DD's Born Free pacifiers. I put them in hot soapy water, squeezed the nipple to get water/soap in, and then squeezed it back out. I repeat it couple times, then I switch to just hot water. It worked for us!

    HTH!! :)

  • DD#1 used to use MAMS and I would just toss them when they started to look gross.  After a while I couldn't get them as clean so I'd throw them out.  DD#2 uses Nuk ones and I've noticed the same thing so I think it happens to all of them over time.
  • I noticed one of my DS's pacifiers (which had been missing for a while, so it wasn't like he was using it) had green stuff inside the nipple. I tossed it, because he's got more, and it would be too hard to get clean inside.
  • i just noticed this problem also. I threw the old ones out and got new ones
  • This has happened with all the brands I've used - Mam, Avent, Nuk, Playtex....I just toss them and get new ones when they start to get gross.
  • If it's just a white film, then it's probably just water that got in there and evaporated, leaving mineral/hard water deposits.

I've had the same luck as a pp, who said she sucked in some hot water and squeezed it out.

If it's green or black, that's mold - toss it.

  • Most pacifier packages say to replace them after 3 months. So, if it's been longer than that, I'd definitely toss 'em.

  • I just noticed this problem also with 1 week old pacifiers.  I wrote to the Mam company and they are sending me new ones and coupons.  The women said I did not wash them properly, but I had only sterilized them and he used them a few times as they weren't even a week old.  Send them an email and see what they say.
  • Yup... we have a few like that, and we use mam's....

  • Submerge them in water and squeeze them over and over... should take care of it!  I also emailed MAM and let them know...
