We had DS allergist app this am to see if he had a tree nut allergy. Everything went great! The initial scratch test showed no signes of any allergies. They tested everything from eggs, dairy, cats, dogs to nuts and tree nuts. We also had bloodwork drawn to do a more thorough testing.
During the scratch test DS giggled and laughed the whole time especially when the nurse got his love handels hahahaha! The blood work was a little less enjoyable but he did great. He didnt cry for the latex band or the initial stick he got pissed when she had to wiggle the needle around to find the vein. Cant blame the kid i'd get angry with that too.
Here is DH holding DS at the allergist during the scratch test...

Re: F/U to DS allergist appointment
Glad he handled it well! When will you get the blood test results?
Ugh we had to do that too! No fun! DD always cries only when they try to hold her arm still but never for the needle! Crazy kids!
Hope the bloodwork results come back neg! Ours did!
They should have the results by next week but our FU app isnt until the 17th. I think next monday i will call and see what the results say. In the mean time im going to fill the Rx for the epi pen and keep both LOs away from nuts like the Dr suggested. He did say that when we want to introduce nuts again he said we can do it at the office. Is this over kill???
He said if the bloodwork comes back neg for nut allergies he would advise staying away until 2 anyhow bc thier systems could still be to immature to handel nuts? and if thats the case we can reintroduce nuts at 2 in the office? I dunno right now its nut free for both LOs until we get his blood work back. then if he is allergic i guess i will have to gigure out if i keep both away from nuts?? this is the twin mommy part thats confusing to me hahaha
Oh that will be hard if you DS is allergic but not DD. I'm a twin and my sister is allergic to penicillion. Every dr that knew would always "air on the side of caution" and never give it to me either. But I never had an issue with it! Silly drs! Ha! GL!
Yeah, I have one twin with a nut allergy so I just keep both away. Our pedi said to introduce nuts to Alex at age 3. I don't think your allergist's plan sounds like overkill at all; sounds very reasonable to me.
Keeping them away from nuts isn't *too* hard unless you're at a potluck or something like that and then it's a little trickier. You just become adept at label reading and avoid places like Dairy Queen b/c of the cross-contamination. I think I posted some links in one of your other posts that should be helpful.
Macchiatto... thanks for the info! Yeah looks like until things change we will be a nut free house?? Do you and DH eat nuts? how sever is you DS allergy?
By the way how is Alex doing since he has been home?
I think if we find out for sure that Will's allergy is severe, we will be nut-free. He has never had nuts that we know of; he tested positive for peanuts on both the skin and blood tests at 15m and the allergist said his results were too high to do a food challenge to confirm. We'll retest at 27m (a year later).
DH and I do still keep peanut butter in the house but only eat it when the boys are napping or in bed for the night and are careful with any dishes/knives used to avoid cross-contamination, wash any cups we drink from after eating it, etc., just to make sure he doesn't come in contact with it.
Alex is doing really well since his hospitalization; thanks for asking. We're still just hoping that was an isolated incident.
Im glad to hear Alex is doing well!! Yeah i think we are going to do the same bc i LOVE peanut butter hahaha. Unless we get a confirmed nut allergy.
