I've been considering looking in to getting an ereader, but I'm not sure if it's a good option for me or not - and if I do decide to get one I'm not sure what to get!
The idea of not having a physical book isn't an issue for me. I do like to read books right when or soon after they come out - is this an issue? How much do the books typically cost? I also like to read in sunlight, and sometimes I read where lighting isn't that great - don't know if this is an issue.
Also, how do I know what to get? Wifi? 3G? I have no clue what I do and don't need. All I really want it for is books and magazines, I don't need anything fancy with music, etc. Advice from those who have one or have looked into them? Thanks!
Re: NBR: Anyone have an ereader?
I have the Kindle with wifi and I love it!
For newer releases, the kindle version is usually around $10, so you get a little break on the price as opposed to buying a paperback version. The kindle is great for reading in sunlight because it isn't backlit like a typical "screen". It's very easy on the eyes. The downside is that if you're reading in poor light, you need a light just as if you were reading a book. There are kindle covers you can buy that have a small light built-in. Then you always have a small light source with you.
Personally, the wifi is enough for me-we don't live in an area that has 3G (currently) so that would be useless for me. Wifi is enough to allow you to download books wherever there is wireless internet.
I have a nook and I love love love it! I got a nook instead of a Kindle because my library doesn't support Kindle books, but I can "check out" nook books. Mine has wifi and we have wifi at my house so on release day I can just sign into my account and download the latest release while I sit on my couch. Awesome, especially now with DS it's harder to get to the bookstore sometimes.
As for price it depends, B&N doesn't give you a members discount on the nook books. Some are the same price as a paperback, most are $1 less ($7 intead of $8). One thing I did notice that annoyed me, a book I was looking at orignally came out in hardback so it was $25, the nook book was $13 and now the paperback is out for $8 but the nook book is still $13.
Like the Kindle the nook uses the e-ink system, so it is not back lit. Like pp said you can read in the sun which is awesome, but you need to have a light source in low light.
Both nook and Kindle have apps for other devices like your computer and phone so you can read your books other places. I would look for something like that when you get one so that you have access to your books if you change readers. Some of the less expensive readers do not have that option. HTH!
