Feeding every 2hrs at night

I am getting sooo tired! Doesn't help that I've picked up a nasty cold too.

But, seriously, what can I do to encourage a 2wk old to sleep longer at night? She can do 4hrs in the day-time no problem. My only thought is that maybe the night sessions are too short so she's getting up more often? DH thinks she just doesn't really like the bassinet. Is she too young for me to be pushing this anyway?

Re: Feeding every 2hrs at night

  • too young, IMO,  Is she back to birth weight yet?  DS started going longer at night once he gained back what he lost in the first couple days.  Until then it was tough!  he still only goes 3 hours so I feel for you

  • She is a pound over her birth weight already. Not really a surprise because all we do is feed, lol.

  • I think it's too early.  Things will get better when she switches around her schedule.  It is exhausting but let her do her thing.

  • I don't feel like I'm pushing it but we wake her up every 3 hours during the day to feed her and then let her wake up on her own at night and feed her when she wakes up hungry. Sometimes she'll go 4 hours at night, which is delightful! Maybe waking her up during the day will help her sleep better at night. Good luck!

  • It's too early. But I can tell you I feel your pain. DD has been feeding a ton due to a recent growth spurt and I just keep looking forward to getting a good night's sleep again.

ETA: BTW I also have been trying to get over a cold that now everyone in my family has had. So I really understand that it is not easy when this happens.

  • If you are worried she isn't nursing long enough at night then you can try nursing her on one side until she slows down then change her diaper, re-swaddle, and nurse on the other side until she falls asleep. Also, where does she nap during the day? I feel your pain, my DD is the same way. Last night she was up every 2 hours but I think she hit the 6 week growth spurt

  • I know exactly how you feel!  LO started to sleep longer after 4 weeks old and it was very exhausting at night!  I found that sometimes when I feed every 2 hrs around the clock during the day LO sleeps longer at night (sometimes 4-5 hrs), but it doesnt always work that great!  Last night we were up every 3 hrs....and it was slightly frustrating!  I never know how our nights are going to be so GL
