Beaba Baby Food Maker?

Does anyone have experience with the Beaba baby food maker?  I'm thinking about getting it since we're about to start solids and I'd like to make my own baby food, but have read mixed reviews about it online.

Re: Beaba Baby Food Maker?

  • I don't have it, but haven't felt the loss. I just steam on my stove and puree in my food processor. I have heard it's not worth the expense since it is just as easy to make food without it.

Plus I have heard that the Beaba only makes small portions. Currently I can do huge batches and freeze in ice cube trays.

    This.

  • I'm in love with mine. I love that its only one thing to clean.

Even though we really don't do purees anymore, I still use it to steam things. Its so simple. Much easier than other steaming techniques.

  • I have one and I love it.  I received mine as a gift, though, and I'm not sure I would've bought it on my own, especially since I already have a food processor and a steamer.  It is nice, though, to have an all-in-one gadget - like Irish said, less to clean, and I also like having a dedicated baby-only machine.  That way I don't have to worry about scrubbing out the food processor if I make adult food that she can't have yet.

  • I got one as a gift but returned it. I think it's a waste to spend the money on it if you already have a steamer basket and food processor or blender. That's what I use.

Ok, so I have no idea how it works, and I tend to have a bias against kitchen gadgets, but how in the world is it easier than putting a steaming basket in a pot?

And the cleaning is so simple! I just rinse the pot since it was only water in it and throw the food processor in the dishwasher.

But, seriously, I don't care if people use a Beaba, it is just sounding a bit infomercial in here. "A blanket is so hard to keep on, so use a snuggie!" :)

  • I just want to point out that my above comment makes me seem a bit crazy and way too invested in whether or not someone uses a Beaba.
  • I have one and I like it, but it was a gift. I don't think I would have bought it myself.  It is very easy to use, but I probably feed her store-bought babyfood more often than I make it.

Its easier because you don't have to bring water to a boil and then watch it and then take it off when its done. It turns itself off. I've let the food sit there for an hour because I got busy with DD. Its one step, and then I can do the next step whenever I want. Its not time sensitive. I just throw it in, turn a switch, and walk away. Then I can freeze it when I have time.

And, I don't have to worry about an open flame being on with DD around (we have gas). I would think it would be MUCH easier/safer if you had an older toddler.

There is a negative, like you mentioned. The portions aren't huge. I sometimes have to make two batches.

There are definite pluses and minus. I just really like, especally now. I just made her steamed carrots for lunch and the one step process made it easier for me to do while she was awake.

Ahh, that makes sense. I often have to do a bunch of different foods at the same time when M is napping so I can tend to it. It would be nice to have something I could switch and ignore.

  • Have one. Love it.  Highly recommend it.  Irish pretty much summarized the reasons I love mine too, so I won't repeat.

I prefer to "set it and forget it."

This. I bought it when I had DD and now I am using it for DS.

  • I love mine and think it's worth every penny. I got it from Buy Buy Baby and used a coupon. It's really easy to use, and I also "set it and forget it". Also, I agree with the poster that said it's much easier than scrubbing and sanitizing the food processor.

  • I have one and I used it a lot at first. Now I use it less and I wish that I spent the money on something else. It is very easy to clean and steaming is easier in it than in a pot with a steaming basket. But it is so expensive that I really don't know if it's worth it.
