"brilliant" tree lighting idea

I hate putting lights on the Christmas tree because it takes forever. To make sure the tree has depth I wrap the lights a few times around going from the trunk out to the edge of the branches. It takes forever. Looks great but it takes forever to get on and off. Yesterday I had the idea to use the icicle lights we put on the outside of the house on the tree. I wrapped the lights as close as I could get to the truck of the tree and then wrapped the icicle part around the branches going outward. It has the same effect as wrapping around multiple times but for half of the time and half of the strings of lights. Now this year we got a smaller tree because of Matt so things may change when we go back to the full size tree but until we do I am loving my tree lighting hack!

  • Cool idea!

We actually bought an artificial tree with the lights already attached. How's that for lazy? :)

I am not sure if you can get the idea from the photo.  I got all shatterproof ornaments from Target this year because I would be sad if Matty got to my nice ornaments.

  • very cool idea!  We actually had to get a fake tree last year with the lights already on, because every time we purchased a real tree, the cats would knaw on the branches and drink the water and get sick.  Too bad, 'cuz I love the smell of a real tree...  :o(

LOL, this is what we have too.

ETA: Kept going and got to the picture.  The tree looks great, Amy!  And thanks for the tip on the shatterproof ornaments!
