I can't bring myself to unseal the boxes on things like our baby monitor (the $150 angelcare monstrosity) or my breast pump. I have no idea why. I'm DYING to look at everything and I know I'm not going to return them (especially the breast pump. I'm almost out of the 30 day return window anyway, so it's not like keeping it in the box serves any purpose).
Still, I can't bring myself to open them. Weird, right? Carseat and stroller? Noooo problem? Pile o' baby clothes? Tags cut off, clothes washed and put away. But the big scary baby monitor is still glaring at me from inside its packaging...
Re: having trouble opening the big ticket items...
I would open it and make sure it works, so if anything is wrong with it you can take it back.
...the monitor, not the pump lol
I'm the exact opposite. All the big ticket items are long opened & ready to go, but so far the only textile item I've opened and washed is the crib sheet. I went on a spree at Old Navy in September and it all still has the tags on, lol.
But then, that's how I am with regular purchases. I hemmed & hawed over a $25 swiffer wet jet for seriously at least two months, but bought a new $300 camcorder after a cursory look at reviews.
We've opened everything except the breast pump, but I just got it 2 days ago. The monitor was one of the 1st things we opened, so we could spy on our dog at night! Our dog sleeps in the laundry room because she still occasionally has night time accidents and we just got new flooring.
I do this too. Why?
More Green For Less Green
Wow...everyone has already done so much to be ready. I told myself that I was going to start going through everything right after Thanksgiving. So of course, I've been struggling with a bad cold since a few days before Thanksgiving!
So don't feel bad that you haven't opened your bigger items. I have my crib built and her going home outfit in the bag. That's it!
...writing that just made me even sadder. I need to get better!
I did that with a few things, then on Monday I just made myself open everything that wasn't going back.
I have this thing about keeping everything perfect for as long as possible when it's a big purchase in general or now when it's for the baby. I put the swing together and it's still in the baby's room (where the door is always shut so the cats can't get hair all over everything) even though I only ever plan to use it downstairs. I'm a weirdo.
This is exactly what I thought and why my breast pump is still in the box it was shipped in let alone the original box!!!
This exactly. Emily is here and we still haven't opened the monitor. It was a big ticket item for us too and we can't seem to open it. Haven't really needed it yet.
I almost had a panic attack opening and putting together the stroller. And I haven't taken anything out of the boxes yet (PNP, monitor, breast pump) - I'm pretty sure that I am in denial that these things will be used in less than a month.
