How often do you wash your hair?

In the winter?  In the summer?  Is it long or short?

I wash every other day unless I go running, in which case I wash it afterwards.  I'm having a tough time because it feels gross on the days I don't wash it.  I know it's just me-it looks fine-but I can't stand it.

Re: How often do you wash your hair?

  • I wash my hair every day in the winter and in the summer. My hair is long.. just below my shoulders.

  • daily. I pull my hair back at night and clip my bangs back to keep it all out of my face while sleeping, so I look like a troll doll in the morning and have to wash to get back to normal :)

  • I wash my medium length hair every day.

  • Twice a week in the winter. It just doesn't need more than that. I have thick, dry, long hair. It looks better the longer I go without washing it. I try to minimize my workouts so it doesn't get too sweaty.

In the summer I wash a little more often, but tend to wear it wavier.

  • Everyday if I've worked out.  If I haven't, then I'll skip a day.  I have long, thick hair.
  • a little over my shoulders, every other day. I have nooo time to do every day. I have A LOT of very thick hair, it would be an afro if I washed it every day
  • Everyday. I have really thick hair in an angled bob and it needs washed and styled daily. It's a quick and managable style and process though.
  • I wash it every other day.  Sometimes in the winter I can go two nights without washing.  If I work out or I wake up and it is a mess, then I will rinse it and put some conditioner on the ends.  I find that my hair is so much healthier when I am not washing it every day (even if I still rinse it).

    same here

  • Every morning. I have thick, curly hair and sleeping on it pulls the curl out and makes it a huge mess. It's on the shorter side....a couple inches below my ears.

  • I wash it about once every 5 or 6 days. My hair is longish. If I wash it more than that it gets super frizzy and dries out. Luckily my hair and head isn't very oily.

  • Every other day, unless I just feel weird. It was long and superthick until yesterday.

My old hairdresser clued me in to the "you should never wash your hair every day" rule.

Um, yeah. The Bump be too crazy for pics of my kid.
  • I have to every week day before work- my roots get too oily to be passable.  Sometimes I can do every other day on the weekends, though.  Although I usually don't.

  • Every day, unless I'm sick and not leaving the house. It's chin-length now, but I wash it the same regardless of length. It looks like a flat oil slick a few hours after I get up if I don't.

  • My hair is thick and just below my shoulders.

When I wear it straight, I wash it once a week.  When I wear it curly, I wash it everyday.

  • My hair is generally shoulder length, give or take.

I wash 2 times per week in the winter usually.  Maybe 3 times in the summer.

I've been trying to wash it less over the last few years.  My hairdresser tells me my hair is in excellent condition and it is noticeable that it is not dried out.

promised myself I'd retire when I turned gold, and yet here I am
  • I wash my hair every day, winter or summer. Sometimes in the summer I wash more than once.
  • Every 3 days or so.  It is always in a ponytail and doesn't get greasy.

I don't have time to wash and dry my shoulder length hair. I usually wash it and put it in a ponytail, wet. Washing every day is really bad for your hair anyway.

  • I wash it twice a week. I needed to change my habit of washing it every day. It got very hard physically because I don't have the energy to blow-dry and flat iron every day. I have long and very thick hair and it literally takes 1.5 hours to style it. That just doesn't fly.

  • When I can't physically picture the last time. It's long-ish.

I have exercise class 4x a week and I'm a SAHM.  I'm not washing my hair for the stroller strides instructor.  Waste of shampoo.

  • Every other day!  Sometimes every 3 Embarrassed I have a bob... Also recently did the Brazillion Blowout...trying to make it last!

This. Have you tried dry shampoo? It is awesome for soaking up grease and giving you some volume between shampoos. I got some at Sephora and it smelled amazing too.

  • Everyday regardless of the season.  It would be too greasy not too.  My hair is pretty thick and on the long side.

  • Every other day for my long curly thick hair. I'm finding now I can actually go a couple of days where my scalp would get too oily before it doesn't seem to be doing that now. And with the curly hair, rewetting it a bit and putting some more product in it it always looks better on non-wash days.
  • I am quite seriously shocked at how many of you don't wash your hair everyday! I had no idea it was so common. I was every day, unless I'm sick or not leaving the house. It feels really gross to me if I don't.

Curly hair tends to be drier hair  due to the nature of the hair folicule so I've had a few hair dressers recommend only washing it 2 or 3x a week as to not dry it out even more.

  • When I get the chance.  I'm usually ok if I go every other day, but every time I miss one extra day, I feel disgusting.  My hair is just below my shoulders, very fine but thick.
  • I wash my hair every 2-3 days year round.

It's long, around the bottom of my bra strap.

I switched to Pureology a year or so ago and that has made a HUGE difference in my being able to wash my hair less often! My hair is thin so you can tell more quickly when I haven't washed it. But Pureology is great (and better) for it. The few times I've gone back to other shampoos/conditioners I've noticed my hair immediately feel greasier and more weighed down and gross. Bleh. And I had to wash it every day.

FWIW, I noticed a huge difference in the health of my hair when I started washing it less. It's less dry (less blow drying/ straightening), less frizzy, and healthier all around.

  • As infrequently as I can get away with it.  That's every other day in the summer and every third day in the winter.  My hair is shoulder length (but I don't think this makes a difference, it's been shorter and longer and my hair routine is the same), wavy and thick.  Like someone said earlier, curly hair can be much drier and washing every day for me leads to super frizz.
  • Mine goes down to the middle of my back.  It's pretty fine so I wash it every day 99% of the time.

Good to know!  It sounds like we have really similar hair (long and thin.)  How expensive is Pureology?

  • I like to do it every 3-4 days, but I can go 5 or 6 w/o it being a big deal.  Its shoulder length and extremely thick, coarse adn dry.  It takes a long time to blow it out and flat iron it, but it will stay straight and shiny for days.
