NOT black & decker. I have burnt two of those motors out, and know others who have had the same issue. My mom has an ancient LaMachine that she loves, and a slightly newer Cuisinart. I love my Cuisinart Hand Mixer, so that would be my first suggestion. Someone just handed down a small cuisinart to me, and I like it OK, but it's just not big enough for what i like.

A black and decker is what I'm replacing. Their customer service is horrible and I'm just over it. I've been looking at Cuisinart

I went back and forth between a Kitchenaid (because I love my mixer) or a Cuisinart. You probably couldn't go wrong with either but I ended up getting a Cuisinart two years ago for Christmas, and I really, really love it. I figured that Kitchenaid specializes in the mixers and Cuisinart does with the food processors so it made sense to me.
ETA: This is similar to mine. Although I think mine might be a little larger.
kitchenaid. i've been drooling over them for months. i am sick of grating a gagillion zucchinis and carrots by hand for baking, and every freakin biscuit & scone recipe on earth now calls for a food processor, and I hate hate hate cutting in butter by hand. i don't know why that wasn't the first thing i bought when I moved to NY. instead I have like $800 worth of diapers to my name.
I have the larger standard size Cuisinart and I have their blender that came with a mini food processor top too! I love having both! I made hashbrowns yesterday (for DH and I, only 2 potatoes) in the mini one and I use the big one for bigger stuff. Both have been great and I have had no problems with them!
