TTC after 35

Pity Party for One..

I've told this board before that I am BRCA1+ which means I have the breast cancer/ovarian gene.  Protocol is to remove my ovaries around 40 (I am 37).  For some reason today I wondered if fertility drugs would be riskier for me due to the BRCA gene. I wasn't as concerned about the ovaries since I will be removing them anyway but was wondering if drugs would raise my already-high risk for breast cancer. So, I took to googling my theory.  What I discovered instead is that there is a link to BRCA1+ and infertility!  Apparently the studies say the BRCA1 mutuation may lead to early dimishment of egg reserve and that there is a low response to fertility drugs being successful. I really enjoyed the advice they gave: to have a family early!! Gee, thanks.. let me get in my time machine to go back a decade.  I'm freaking out a bit since I took the First Response fertility test a few weeks ago and it said my ovarian reserve was crappy.  I know I am jumping ahead but it all seems to fit together (in a bad way). I guess my appt with the RE next month will be interesting.  I guess I just wanted to vent. Thanks for reading.

  • Oh Mrs., I'm so sorry.  Sometimes the internet is way more of a problem than it is a help.  I know it's easy for me to say, but try not to worry about it too much at this point.  There may be things your RE knows about that you're not going to find on the google search.   And when you go in next month, just make sure that you tell them your concerns about this and I'm sure they'll help you through.  You're in my t&p's.

  • I'm with aurora1974; sometimes a little knowledge, brought oh-so-helpfully to us by the powers of Google, can be a dangerous or at least depressing thing.  Not that it's not good to have informed yourself, because you're now that much more prepared to talk with the RE.  But (and I say this as someone who can't stop Googling when I'm on the hunt for medical info of all kinds), try to now put it out of your mind and assume that your RE is going to help you put together a workable plan for your situation.  A drink might help if you're in that part of your cycle when you feel you can have one.  Wink
