right now i have 3 wraps... 2 i will always use to wrap, and one that i plan on loaning out to friends in hopes of them being wrap converts. they are all the same size, 7. that's a great size for me since i can do all the different carries, but they're so LONG... i'm thinking of going for a smaller size. plus, i want so many different brands and colors and styles... i just don't know how i can justify having a huge stash to my husband!
i know this is a hard question, but what is your ideal wrap stash? how many wraps would you have? would you get different sizes, or stick with one?
Re: what's your ideal wrap stash?
I'm not exactly sure what my ideal stash is, but I know what my essentials are size wise.
I need:
Atleast one size 6
Atleast 2 size 4 or 5
Atleast one size 2
And I must have atleast one Vat and one Zara in my stash at all times.
I am still building mine (hoping to add a few more by Christmas!) but here is my "ideal" stash:
Four size 6 wraps - Both DH and I can easily use this size. I want 2-3 for us to use and 1-2 to loan to friends/family.
Two size 4 wraps - Mostly to be used by me...though DH can do a few short carries.
Two shorty wraps - for hip carries or a quick ruck
1 Mei Tai - for quick up/downs
1 Ergo - already have and DH kinda likes it...I hate it
Silly question from a new Mom who aspires to wear her LO...
What are all these sizes/names for wraps? Where can I learn more about different wraps? And why do you need more than one?

most of the carriers mentioned in the posts are woven wraps. they're amazing and addictive! you can learn a lot about them on thebabywearer.com... there are reviews of all the different brands (as well as other carriers like ring slings, soft structred carriers, etc) and a for sale of trade forum which is definitely addicting.
is there a "need" for more than one wrap? maybe not. but there are so many beautiful ones, it's hard to stick with just one. plus the different brands have different levels of strength, comfort, etc. and with longer wraps you can do more carries, but shorter wraps are quicker and easier to use for certain holds, and easier to carry around.
sigh. i want all the wraps.
Ideal... I'd have enough money to own any wrap I wanted. LOL
But realistically... my stash tends to hover between 7 and 10. I have to have at least one size 6, and one size 4- those are necessities. I like having wraps of various thickness for various types of weather- something thin for warm weather, a wooly for cold weather, some that can work for anytime or place. Also, at least one wrap has to be "workhorse" quality, where I'm not having to worry about snagging it. The rest can just be pretty.
If you're wanting a smaller size that is good for out and about, I'd go with a shorty or a size 4. Shorties can be used for back and hip carries (used w/ a slip knot, like a ring sling). 4's can be used for ruck tied in front, kangaroo, hip carries, among others.

In terms of what I need: I need a size 6 and a size 4.
In terms of what I like to have: the above in a thinner and thicker material for different weathers.
In terms of what I want: All of the above in all of the pretty colourways that I see, plus in a wide range of colour palates to suit any choice of clothes, event, mood or whim.
Unfortunately my DH has an excellent eye for spotting a new wrap.
