First appointment tomorrow... nervous!

My first prenatal appointment is tomorrow... I'm going to see the nurse practitioner and then two weeks later I go in to see the doctor.

I don't know exactly what will happen at each of the appointments, but I'm hoping we get to hear/see the heartbeat tomorrow.  I don't think I will really believe this is real until then.  I'm not sure why, but I'm feeling extremely nervous!

  • So exciting!

Don't be surprised if tomorrow's NP appointment is just the "dos and don'ts" and the "what to expect at your next appointments". At least that's how mine was...we didn't do anything fun until the first OB appt two weeks later.

    Either way, good luck!

  • Exciting!  My first appt, I remember we did the bloodwork and just went over general stuff.  We had to do a pap since it had been over a year also.  It depends on the place you go to if they check for the heartbeat that early.  My place didn't check until at least 10 weeks.  Good luck!
  • At mine they did an internal ultrasound. It was awesome seeing the little guy for the first time! Good luck!
  • My first appointment was different because of my previous miscarriage, but at my OB interview at 9 weeks they did blood work, I had to pee in a cup, they went through a lot of information on pediatritian's, different testing, any questions I had. I didn't get an u/s or hear the heartbeat, but then I had 3 early u/s.

They told me at my 12 week that the doctor would normally do a full medical including pap smear (I just had a full medical a few months back so wont have to have another).

They did ask me at my 9 week appointment about whether we wanted the testing done for Cystic Fibrosis, and the one for Down's Syndrome, which I wasn't expecting to have to decide on so early.

  • good luck!
  • Good luck!  At my practice, they do an u/s first, you meet with the NPs to talk about baby stuff, and you see your doctor.  I had a pap done last time even though I had one two months prior.
  • Good luck! Hope all goes well for you :)
