Question about Gap Maternity

I need a nice pair of jeans to wear for going to church, the theater, and when my DH comes home.  I normally spend around $150 on my jeans when I'm not pregnant, but I just can't justify it for the 6 months of pregnancy. I once owned a pair of Gap Long and Lean jeans before I lost weight and liked them. I was considering buying a pair of the maternity ones in a dark wash as something 'nicer' and long enough to wear with heels.

I find that Gap jeans run large, is the same true for their maternity? I'm normally a size 12, but could wear a 10 at Gap pre-preg.  Also, are they long enough (I'm 5'8)?

Any other suggestions? I have a pair from old navy and they are not long enough to wear with heels, and I have a pair from Motherhood that I can't stand because they stretch out wayyyy too easily. Do I really need to take the plunge and buy some from Pea in the Pod or will the Gap work?

Re: Question about Gap Maternity

  • I can't answer a lot of your questions, but I do know Gap Maternity runs big just like their normal clothes. I just bought a bunch of XS tops from them, but I didn't try on any jeans. I did go to Pea in the Pod and they have a great selection. I really wanted the 7 for All Mankind but no way am I paying that kind of money for maternity jeans. I actually just found some I like a lot at Target yesterday for $30.

  • Not sure how much you are looking to spend, but I have a pair of William Rast jeans from A Pea in the Pod that are a little too small for me (I am normally size 14)...they may fit you?  The inseam is over 33".

  • I have a pair of long and lean maternity jeans and I love them.  I have the same size I have in my non-maternity long and lean jeans so I'd go with that you wore pre-pregnancy.

I'm 5'9"- my height is in my legs though- and I bought the long length and the length to me is the same as the non-maternity ones.

my one and only gripe about them is that I couldn't get them in a dark wash.  I don't remember now if it was that they're not available at all or just not in my size and in long length.  I have the medium wash, but it's definitely a more casual wash.

  • I just got a pair of Gap Maternity's Dark Wash Long and Lean jeans with the full panel so they'll last through the pregnancy. I love them for a dressy jean and you can definitely wear them with heels. I got a Regular Length and they are super long on me (i am 5'6). I really like them though.

I got a cheaper pair from Pea in the Pod and don't like them nearly as much as the Gap ones.

  • I absolutely LOVE my Gap 1969 maternity jeans.  I can say with quite a bit of confidence that after my first Gap maternity pants purchase, I won't be buying another brand of maternity throughout this pregnancy.  I bought them in the dark wash, and they are dressy enough for what you're describing.

Regarding length/size -- I have a 33.5 inch inseam, and am 5'9.  The regular length fit me just perfectly and the longs were too long.  I did not try the longs on with heels though, and I wear mostly flats.  I thought the waist was pretty true to size.  I was very comfortable buying my regular pre-pregnancy size.  I did try my first pairs on in the store though, so if you don't have that option, I would be tempted to buy a couple of sizes and return the ones you don't want.

Regarding cost -- you can absolutely get a good price on Gap denim.  They are all priced at $59 or $69 and I've used a 40% off coupon for every pair I've purchased yet.

    Enjoy!

  • In my experience, the Gap maternity jeans do run large. I had to return mine (ordered online) because they were too baggy.

  • Thanks so much ladies! I knew you would be able to help! I don't have the option to buy them in the store, so I thought I'd ask before ordering. :)

I have a 35% off one that's good this weekend (today through sunday), but you have to have a gap card. If you have a gap card, I can share :)

  • I'm the same--I struggle to find cheap jeans even when I'm not pregnant.  I actually did splurge on jeans and got a pair of PnP and Mavi jeans, and LOVE them.  Now in saying that, I'm a SAHM, so I wear jeans almost every day--so those jeans have already gotten a lot of love.  So you just have to decide what you can live with and live without.  If I still worked outside of the home and wore dress clothes daily, I might have only purchased one pair.  I did have a pair of Long and Lean jeans last time around, but for some reason they made me itch like crazy.  Between that and my love for the secret fit belly, I bought new this time.

  • I bought a pair of the Sexy Boot Cut Gap Maternity Jeans and I love love love them! I got a 4L and its perfect when I wear boots. I ordered a 4L, it's a tad big, but its perfect. I want to get a 4R but they are sold out, must be a popular item.
