DOC Band

My son is getting his DOC Band on Monday and the doctor said that the helmet would keep him very warm.. I was wondering what you ladies that have babies in the DOC Band put them in at night? We usually put them in the fleece wearable blankets but I don't want him to be to hot.

TIA

Re: DOC Band

  • I don't have any advice for you, but just wanted to say that one of my boys is getting a DOC band soon.  He gets measured next week.  Someone on this board recommended blingyourband.com for some cute decals.  Thought I'd pass that on.  GL.

  • Singleton Mama here and possibly overstepping but my DS is a DOC Band Grad.

Babies tend to sweat a lot with the DOC Band and that's why Cranial Tech recommends you dress them a bit lighter than you have previously. I had my son in cotton pajamas and a fleece sleep sack and he was OK.  But he did get hot.

Also the helmet STINKS from sweat.  Get 90% rubbing isopropyl alcohol to clean the band during the off hour.

I also got decals from Bling Your Band. Coree is awesome (she makes them) and ships super fast. Worth the money since regular stickers tend to peel off.

  • Hey thanks for the heads up, I'll be sure to get some of that alcohol. Thats what I usually dress them in, maybe I'll turn the fan on but a blanket over Wyatt so he doesn't get cold and leave Grayden like he is so he doesn't get to warm!

  • They should talk to you about cleaning it w/ alcohol. I used old washcloths to do it.

Luckily in winter they dont sweat as much as summer.

Ditto pp re bling your band, she is great & I loved decorating my son's bands (he had 2 & I did 3 diff designs).

We never dressed them in fleece pjs anyway b/c we keep our house at 74 in winter although I may have been doing sleep sacks for them during the coldest part of the winter last year...I can't remember.

    GL! It'll go quickly.

  • Ava wore a helmet during the cooler months.  I used to put her in a onesie and then her sleeper instead of pajames.

Your LO will sweat under the helmet.  I used to rub her head with a washcloth and some shampoo to help and then the same on the helmet.  It did go quick and her head looks good now.  Good luck with it.

  • My LO's bedroom is the coolest room in the house, so where as I might use a onsie under her pj's now that it's getting colder, I just use her fleece jammies and a blanket she usually kicks off anyway. I also keep socks of her during the day if its a warmer day out.
