I have standard digital cable at home, so Direct TV is a foreign beast to me. The doctor's bedroom at work has Direct TV hooked up to this truly ancient TV. It is the kind that sits in a wooden case on the floor!! Anyway, I turned it on a couple of minutes ago, and all it is saying is "searching for satellite signal." What do I do to fix it? The error code is (771) if that helps. It will be a very quiet time down here til 8 am if the tv really doesn't work. I usually have CNN on in the background.

Re: Anyone have Direct TV??
Maybe the dish got bumped or moved due to wind/snow - and changed the alignment? The menus are pretty good - hit the menu button, then select Parental, Fav's, & Setup. Then go to System Setup and then Satellite. Then select View Signal Strength. This is a good starting point to make sure the dish itself isn't out of whack.
ETA: if you google DirecTV error 771, you get a bunch of links to web forums with other troubleshooting tips. Sounds like it could be a number of things.
