He's allergic to red...sigh, I get the worst mother of the year award for today

My H is allergic to red dyes - can't do red sheets, red clothes, etc.  Yesterday was picture day at day care.  They changed my little man into a Christmas onsie and it had matching red footsie pants with Santa Clause on them (super cute!).  They told me at daycare they had done this, no big deal.  When I got home with him, I noticed he had little red bumps on a couple places on his legs.  I put a little cream on it, not thinking to much of it.  I then gave little man a bath later that evening and stuck him in a red footsie pajama outfit that I had bought for Christmas.  I was talking with H this morning and told him about the bumps.  He said well maybe he is allergic to red like me?!! I went running to little man's room and ripped his pajamas off of him. He was now covered in little red bumps.  I cried. He didn't cry, didn't even seem to phase him, other than I pulled him out of bed from a sound sleep - he didn't seem to happy about that.  I put some more cream on him and prayed that it would all go away.  I have already called daycare this morning to see how the bumps were.  They said they were going away.

 Sigh....

  • I would have never thought of the possibility of being allergic to specific dyes like that.  This definitely doesn't qualify you for "worst mother of the year"!  Hope the bumps go away soon and glad you found a reason for them.

This made me laugh!  So true!

Many people never find out about allergies until much later, or a much more dangerous reaction.  Feel lucky that you figured it out now!  :-)
