Documentary on Couples Trying to Have a Girl

Discovery Health has a documentary on called "8 Boys Wanting a Girl" -- women attempting to manufacture a girl.

I'm on the edge of my seat. This one woman has eight boys (first at 22, last at 40) and still wants to try for a girl.

  • I saw that last weekend... and thinking about all the money they put into trying to give birth to a girl, specifically, they could have adopted a little girl.

  • Is there actually something you can do to try to have a girl?  I've heard of things you can do to try for a boy, but not a girl.  I think it's weird to try for a gender.

  • my mom and I just watched this.  I think it's weird, and a little sad how they were putting all of their hope into having a girl.  I feel kind of bad for their sons.  What if they feel as though they aren't good enough.  One of them compared her inability to have a girl to women who can't have children- I think that's so insulting to those women!

  • What? I didn't think there was actually any merit in the try for a girl/boy methods. I can imagine if I had 8 boys and wanted another baby hoping for a girl, but they're actually spending money on it?
  • I didn't see the documentary. But I read the "Shettles" method book , all about how to try for boy or girl. We decided to try for a boy first. They said not to try this unless you are going to be 100% happy either way. It did NOT work! lol. We followed the method to T for a boy but we had a girl! I love her dearly and would not trade her for boy ever. Now, if we were to have a 2nd girl, I would be just as happy. I think you can "try" for one gender or another but shouldn't unless you will be happy either way. I didn't realize I was SO set on a boy until they told us at the ultrasound GIRL and I didn't believe them. It took me a while to adjust to the idea. So in a way, I feel like it is better to just be happy with letting nature take it's course and not try for either, because otherwise you might be setting yourself up for disappointment.
