Our daycare's parent group does "group" gifts for all of the teachers. They e-mail a spreadsheet listing the names of all of the teachers, aids, and floaters, and you fill it out with the amount of money you'd like to donate to each teacher. The give each teacher a gift card or cash for the total given. They also give a card with the names of all of the kids whose families donated.
What is your budget for gifts like this? DD had 2 teachers in her room, plus there are 2 teachers, 1 each from the other 2 infant rooms, who she's with first thing in the morning and at the end of the day, plus a coupole of floaters who help out at lunch, etc. If you were me, how would you divide up your budget amongst these teachers?
Re: Another daycare gift post
I have no idea. I feel just as lost as you. Hopefully some veteran daycare mommies can chime in!
oh boy, that is tough. you can't see what the other parents are doing can you? Is it like a communal spreadsheet? I was going to say see what some of the others were doing.
Some of the people over on MM are doing like 100, 200, even more for teachers/care providers. It made me feel very poor.
No, it's totally private. You fill out the spreadsheet hard copy, enclose a check, and put the envelope in a box or something in the main office.
Wow, 100 or 200 is a lot!
Oh, and I also should add that while it's easy for me to tell myself that we already pay a crapton in tuition, I know that the teachers don't get paid very well, so I have to keep that in mind.
Here's another question: There was a lead teacher in DD's room from from the time she started until the beginning of the "school year," so 6 months, or the majority of the time that DD has been at the school. The teacher was supposed to stay with the classroom until they moved up to the 2s room, but an prek teacher position opened up and she moved to that room. Should I include a gift for her as well? I'm leaning towards yes because she was really great.
