NBR: coffee maker Q

Anyone with a drip coffee maker?  Do the thermal carafes keep the coffee warm (as opposed to the glass ones)?  Worth the extra cost?

Yes, I know Keurigs are the bomb-diggity, but DH absolutely does not want one.  It is going to be tough enough to convince him to give up his old-school percolator.  I am getting him a programmable drip maker so that he can prep it the night before and actually have coffee at home instead of having to stop on his way to work and get some.

  • yes, yes and yes.  :o)

We received a Cuisinart (with thermal pot) for our wedding almost 4 years ago and it was, by far, THE best gift!  awesome coffee machine.

FWIW-even the glass pot ones have a temperature knob for low, medium and hot

  • Yes.  I have one with a carafe and it does keep the coffee warm and also doesn't cook it and therefore change the flavor.  I got one with a milk steamer too so I can have warm milk in my coffee but I always have to use low fat milk so it doesn't clog.

  • We have a cuisinart with a carafe and bean grinder and love it!  The grinder does sound a bit like a helicopter taking off, but...The carafe is great.  I make a pot so that it's ready when I leave at 6:20 and it is still plenty HOT for DH later.
  • We don't have a thermal thingamagig, just a glass one, but as a treehugger I've got to say boo to the Keurig! Those things are sooooooo wasteful it makes me cringe.
  • I love our coffee pot: https://www.cuisinart.com/products/coffee_bar/dtc-975bkn.html

In fact, when we were in Tahoe last week the place had a regular glass carafe with with the burner underneath. Tim and I agreed that we couldn't have one of those again. Yuck...what it does to the coffee.

The Keurig? Not so much. True about the waste. Coffee choice is limited. I never feel like I can make the coffee strong enough or a cup big enough for me. Although, I have determined that there isn't enough caffeine in the world to meet my needs.
