Maryland Babies

s/o daycare gifts- who to buy for?

Our daycare has 2 infant rooms one generally has the younger babies and the other has the older ones.   There are 2 teachers in the Young Infants room.  (DD's primary room) and there are 3 teachers in the Older Infants room.

In the mornings and in the evenings the young infants and the older infants are all together in the same room.  They split up at around 9:30 and then they get back together around 4.  So for a decent part of the day DD is with all of the teachers.

I will be getting something for the 2 teachers in DDs room, but should I also get something for the teachers in the other room?  Also, there are 2 regular floaters that spend a lot of time in the infant rooms.

To further complicate matters DD is in the early intervention program, and sees a physical therapist every other week.  I feel like I should get something for her as well...

That would be between 6 - 8 teachers to buy for.  Surprise  But they are SO good with my daughter.  I appreciate how much all the teachers at the school work with DD on her physical therapy.  She would not have made such rapid progress if they haven't been working with her every day to reinforce what the therapist and I work on at home....

  • I know it can be so confusing!! Last year when DS was kind of bouncing in between rooms like you described I did gifts for his main teachers but then did a big food/treat basket and put all their names on it.

The therapist is kind of your call......only every other week I don't think would warrant a gift in my book, but if she is that big a help to you, it certainly couldn't hurt!

  • I would do something for the two main teachers and the PT; the other 'extra" teachers adn the floaters I woudln't worry about.  I'm just getting a big gift for DD's main teacher something smaller for the other teacher adn then muffins/cookies, etc. for the "room" and the floaters.  Do what you can do and what you are comfortable with, but bear in mind there will totally be a mom who gives every single person some better present than you and you will feel like a cheapo - but then there are the other parents who do nothing

  • I know how you feel. SD has her regular teacher, special ed, pt, ot, speech, vision specialist, at least one para educator, bus driver and aide. They are all wonderful and do so much for her. I have started buying regular ed, special ed, and para (the ones who spend the most time with her) something around $20 and the rest something about $5. I wish we could do more, but it would get out of control.

  • Yeah I can see how it can get out of control.  We have a similar sitch as you Weezie. I think we will do gc's for the main teacher and some aides and DD's former teacher since she still sees her and goes to her room at times.  Then for the rest of the floaters that are there early in the am and late in the pm, probably just bring in a basket of goodies from us all.

  • I taught for 5 years and honestly what I think would be the most touching is a hand written thank you note with your daughter's hand print on it and maybe include a picture as well.  You could even have her holding a thank you sign or something of that nature.  Those are the gifts that mean the most to me and that I have kept all these years.

ETA: Oh and you could also bake something too if you don't feel comfortable just giving a card.
