Daycare issue!

I got called to pick DD up because she had a 101 fever...  I got there about 15 minutes later and her teacher was about to take her along with the rest of the class outside to play!! I was SHOCKED. I asked her "So you were taking her with you" and she gave me this look like yeah what else am I supposed to do?! I just got her stuff and kinda left in a hurry but I talked to the director and told her.. she assured me that would NOT have happened but what if she had missed their class going and she had gone out. I just can't believe her teacher thought that was ok. Am I being unreasonable? She had DD's jacket on and everything and was lining them all up!!! The director said she was glad she told me because that was "the icing on the cake" so I am assuming they are having issues with that teacher. Not to mention that teacher has a kid of her own so you would think she would have thought that wasn't a good idea!

    WOW! I probably would have ripped into the teacher. Glad you talked to the director. Hopefully it will get better.

    I think you are over reacting a little. Daycare's are bound by laws and they have to abide by a ratio of teachers to kids as well as they must go outside if the temperature is reasonable outside. If they do not do either of these they can be fined. If it is the classes time to go outside then outside everyone goes. If the director knew that the the teacher called you to pick up LO then she should have gone and stayed inside with your LO so the rest of the class could go outside. I understand where you are coming from, but sadly it does not work that way.

    This - I work at a daycare and as long as the child is well enough to participate they are expected to.  If a fever is the only symptom of being ill I would be taking the child out with the class as well - fresh air is good for them and as long as they are dressed for the weather I don't see anything wrong with it.  If they feel like sitting down and not playing then so be it.  If I know they are not well I keep a close eye on them and if they need extra hugs/cuddles etc. I make sure they get them.  I don't think this teacher did anything wrong unless the centre policies state something different.

    The director on the other hand saying that that was the last straw to a parent is very unprofessional in my opinion.

    I agree that you are overreacting. 101 is a fever, but for a toddler it's not terribly high and if your LO was acting fine, then it's not too concerning.Now if your LO were lethargic or vomiting and running a fever and the teacher was trying to take her outside, I'd be pissed.

    It frustrates me that if my child runs a fever over 101 they can't return for 24 hours, even if it's something like teething. I understand the precaution, but if I called my pedi and said "my kid is running a fever of 101...what do I do?" they would pretty much say "um, give him Tylenol...he's fine."

    Um, yeah. The Bump be too crazy for pics of my kid.

    Do they have a sick room?  

    I think it would bother me as another parent that a child sick enough to have to go home was still hanging around with the other kids.  The point of going home is so that the other children don't get sick.  I know the one time that I had to pick DD up at daycare, she was in the sick room with the director playing by herself.   That's their standard operating procedure.
