When addressing Christmas cards do I put an ' after the families name?
Such as: The Andersen's or would it be The Andersons?
Same goes for when signing our name on the card do I put the sallymad's or sallymads?
I feel like I should know this so I guess better late then never on asking.... : )
Re: Really dumb grammar question
only use the apostrophe if you are using it in the possessive sense, as in "The Andersons' house"
If you're just being plural, it's Andersons and Sallymads.
Or you could just avoid it all together and say "The Anderson Family"
No apostrophe.
Apostrophe makes it possessive (meaning the thing after it is theirs).
So, "Love, the Andersons" or "Merry Christmas, Andersons!"
You'd use a possessive like:
"the Anderson's Christmas card."
no apostrophe!
eta: thank you for actually asking... I am an English teacher and I'm constantly baffled by how many people go around just throwing apostrophes in wherever they want.
