3rd Trimester

Is this a bad sign?

A co-irker has her 5 kids in here and the little boy is making stupid airplane noises. He's just standing here making stupid noises and I want to rip his effing head off.

Kids don't do stupid shat like this on a regular basis, right?

  • It's less annoying when it's your own kid.  You will develop new neurological pathways in your brain so that you can block out your kid's own irritating habits and you may even delude yourself into thinking they are cute.  Otherwise we would all eat our young.

  • OMG, I sit right outside the VP of Human Resources's office. Last week some guy was in there talking to her, and his juuuust precious adorable little son was there with him. The kid kept flipping the lights on and off, and opening and closing the door, over and over again. it's a heavy door too, so it was nice and loud and annoying. NOBODY was saying anything to this kid! They were just sitting there having their meeting like none of that was going on. I was about to yell at the kid, but instead I finally just got up from my desk and left for a little while.

I didn't even say anything to anyone here because I thought they would think bad of me because I'm pregnant and hating on a kid.

  • From MY experience I know the girls don't... But not sure about boys Wink

  • Everytime I look at H like this Indifferent or comment about a kid we see in public he asks, "Remember when you used to like kids?"

  • I have zero tolerance for other people's children lately. Call it pregnancy hormones, or whatever, but I have felt the same way about random kids I see lately. I've got 3 boys at home (ages 11, 6 and 4) and I haven't dismembered any of them yet, so I think you'll be ok. Like it was mentioned above, it's different when it's your own children.....most of the time. Wink

  • It never ends.  They just do different things to annoy you as they get older like play XBOX 360 super loud.  Or not pick up after themselves.  Or tell you you're HUGE and laugh and walk away.  Or lie to you and tell you they brushed their teeth then breathe in your face and you realize he didn't.....you know, stuff like that!!!

So very true. The other day I was driving and DS was singing in the back seat very loudly. I thought "If this was any other kid I would want to kill him right about now" but somehow you can magically tolerate your own kid being annoying for far longer.

That's not to say that it never gets on your nerves. It certainly does. But it take so much longer.

    Yes

  • They can be trained. I teach kindergarten and often have kids behave better in a group of 21 than their parents manage with 1. Be firm and don't ever let them smell fear and you can minimize the annoying!

    Bingo!

  • Hee-hee.  I teach in an open design school (NO walls!)  I think I've developed an ability to tune out almost anything.  And yes, they do weird things and make weird noises all.day.long. (not sure if you were kidding or not about that...)  I've heard it's better when they're your own though, as stated above.

  • Not all kids make airplane noises 24/7. Let's look at my kids for an example. One day it was animal noises, the next day they had a contest to see who made better train sounds. The day after that was 'let's climb every vertical surface in the house!' Other people's children are more annoying by default, the same way your child is cuter than everyone else's. It's nature's way of making sure you take care of your spawn.

  • You are not the only one getting frustrated with other peoples kids!  I think the smartest thing for me to do at this point is just not go into public before mine pops out because every time I do, there is that one kid that just drives me INSANE!  Example: I'm at Motherhood trying on bras (NOT a fun experience to begin with!), and this lady with her 2 and 4 year old sons looking around the store.  Well, as I'm trying on a million different bras, the 4 year old keeps running in and out of my dressing room and opening the curtain!  She is not doing a dang thing about it!  I was already frustrated to begin with, so I just put my clothes back on and left.  When I came out, the mothers response was "I'm sorry he was doing that, I didn't want to tell him to stop because then he would cry".  I just tried to remember that it's not the kids fault sometimes, it's the parents for not disciplining them.
