Sell me on your SUV

I am getting a new (to me) car and want a crossover/SUV.  I am not going to spend too much money though (below $13,000).

  • I have a 2007 Jeep Patriot. I love it! It gets really good gas mileage for an SUV.

  • I recently got a Subaru Outback and love it although it is considered a "sport wagon". I've also heard great things about the Subaru Forester.
  • we have a Ford Escape and we *love* it. this will be our third year with it and we've been happy the entire time.

it drives like a dream, it's pretty good on gas (suprisingly), and there is a lot of leg room, both in the front and in the back

plus when you fold the back seats down flat there is at on of room back there if you need to move something!

    Same here.

It's cute, functional and a Jeep. What more could you ask for?

Did I sell you on it yet?

  • I also have a Patriot. It gets 28mpg. Nice size SUV but not enormous or too small. I like it. Just wish I would've gotten 4 wheel drive. They're about $16k new so I thin you could find one a few years old in your price range.
  • I think I am getting the Jeep Patriot, as pp said great gas mileage. I have spoken to a few dealers, I can get a 2010 for about 17,000 in February after the 2011 have been out. With my trade in I should be right round 15,000. I am in Canada so it's alittle more expensive so I am sure it wold fit into your budget if you are in the USA. All the reviews seem pretty good, you could always go for a 2009 if you want it fully loaded. Good luck on your search!

    Mine's not 4WD either. :(

  • I have a Honda CR-V that we just bought and we love, love, love it.  I don't know what year would be in that price range though...

  • Thanks for the suggestions.  Anyone have any experience with a Pacifica?  I love the 3rd row seating.

  • We just traded in a 2007 Subaru Forester for an Acura MDX.  If you get a 2009 or later, the Forester is an AWESOME small SUV with great gas mileage, terrific 4wd, etc.  Anything older than that, though, is before their redesign and the interior is TINY for 2 carseats (I have 2 kids).  No room for anyone to sit in between, have to push the front seats WAY up for RFing, etc.

I love, love, love my MDX.  It has a 3rd row but isn't ginormous.  Friends of mine have the GMC Acadia and like it, too.  Not sure if you could get either for under $13K, though.  But 3rd row + storage is very hard to fine, I found.

  • I really like the Arcadia but it is way out of my budget.  I have a great car but am selling it and getting a cheaper one to have no car payment.

My dad has owned his own automotive repair business for the past 30 years. He has a great reputation in our town. He would not recommend any Chrysler products. He would recommend Toyota, Nissan, and Honda though!

A few years ago a friend of mine had a Chrysler Pacifica and they had so many problems with it. They finally traded it in for a Honda Odyssey.

I have a pacifica do you want it?  it's forsale I HATE HATE HATE it.  the fuel milage really is terrable, when it breaks the parts take forever to come in.  I also have a hard time getting a RF carseat in it and you really can't get into the third row of seatting and if you do you can't even haul grocries home the back is so small.

All in all it's the worst car I have ever owned although when I bough it two years ago I though it would be perfect as our family car and we have yet to take in on a trip we always pick DH quadcab truck only 1 MPG worse on fuel and so much more comfortable

  • I have a jeep liberty.. hate it.. two carseats in it?  yes it can happen but forget someone sitting in the passenger seat.

I want an acadia but 28,000 dollars used.... I really dont want a carpayment.

Saturn Outlook has the same body for 10,000 dollars less...  the only thing is saturn is out of buisness but GM is still holding the warrenty to the outlooks.

I really liked the look of the pacifica but my girlfriend also said there was no space.. but I still really like it.. Chrysler stopped making them in 2008 sold the body style over to Dodge well not sold but pushed it over to them.. to make it a lower end car.. its now the Dodge Journey.. I dont like them as much.

For us we are still between the outlook and the acadia..

Dont get a jeep liberty thats all i can help you with HAHAH

My mom has a 2010 Dodge Journey. I think it's similar to the Pacifica. I love her car! There is TONS of room and driving it is wonderful. It's so smooth. She doesn't have the 3rd row of seats, but it is an option. Without them though, the cargo space in her car is ENORMOUS.

I have a Ford Escape and I love it too. It's the perfect size for me (it's smaller than the Journey) and doesn't drive quite as smooth. But I have a 2002 model, so that could be why.
