Belly piercing... To keep or not to keep?

So I'm 4 weeks pregnant and I'm going to be 29 in 2 days. Should I really hold on to something I got when I was 18 y.o.? I rarely show it off except for the occassional summer bikini when I'm feeling skinny. But now that my stomach is going to be getting sizeably bigger, I'm not sure if I should take it out now to give it time to close and heal or hold on to my youth and keep it. I've seen some pregnant bellies with HUGE piercing scars so I'm trying to prevent that from happening to me.

 Thoughts???

  • Take it out, IMO belly button piercings look trashy on pregnant women.

  • I took mine out with my first and never put it back. I didn't have a big scar. And I agree with PP, I think they look trashy on pregnant women.

I think you answered your own question - take it out and let it heal. You can always repierce later if you want.

  • Well since you're asking, I say ditch it.

I got rid of mine in the summer and I can only hope I don't get a big scar

  • I've had mine for close to 10 years. I took it out 2-3 months ago and it's showing no signs of closing up. You will have to take it out eventually because it will start to get caught on things as your belly protrudes (plus the whole looking trashy bit) but that doesn't necessarily mean it will close up.

  • I think it is totally cool to keep it.  I talked to a piercer and he said that if someone has scares it is usually due to prior scar tissue stretching.  They actually make jewelry that is longer-for pregnant women!
  • Id get rid of it..Your a mamma now, and your risking a scar later..
  • Take it out... I took mine out years ago and it still left a scar which is now beginning to stretch.

  • I don't have a piercing, but while checking out various pregnancy sites, I found one where you can actually keep your piercing, which I don't think looks trashy at all.  If body mods were trashy, then I'd need to get rid of my tattoo before my LO comes.

  • Definitely take it out. Its time.

  • I kept mine in until around 18 weeks last time, and then I took it out.  I never put it back in.  I do not have a giant scar.  My SIL on the other hand has a huge scar.  I guess it just depends on how much you expand.  I still am able to put a ring through it, but I have chosen not to.

  • With DD, I took out my belly ring at the beginning of the 2nd tri. I had no problem putting the ring back in after she was born. After pregnancy, my stomach was never quite the same so I wore tankinis/one-piece swimsuits all of last summer so it's not like anyone sees it anymore anyway. I still like having it though.

I'll probably take it back out again in a few weeks. I'll most likely put it back in once #2 is born.

This. I took it out mid-2nd tri last time (and I swear it was holding my bb in bc a week after it came out, so did my bb!). I also had no problem getting it back in. I do have a bit of a scar but that is from before the pg, basically just moving around after all these years. It may or may not go back in after #2, I don't flaunt it, I am just so used to it that I think my stomach looks weird w/o it.

I have had mine out for maybe 8 or 10 years. Still not closed :( I dont think I could get a regular bar in it again, but it is definitly not closed yet.

  • I'm 27 and I'm trashy...

I took mine out when I was about 5-6 months with DS and put it back in after and will be doing the same for this LO.

  • For the record, I took it out. We'll see how quickly it closes... if it even does.

  • I wish I took mine out earlier. I had a perfectly round belly so my piercing fit fine, but the curve caused the hole to stretch. I took it out at like 32 weeks and never got it back in.
