DH was thinking about collecting something for DD. He a librarian, so a book series seemed like a good option, but he suggested Little Golden Books. I tried googling, but aren't there like 1000 of them? Does anyone know? Or do you collect anything?
I started last Christmas and plan to continue every year. I will get her one Snowflake ornament every year... they are her's, they will be displayed yearly on our tree, but when she moves out she gets to take them all with her. Then she will already have a start of her decorations.
I collect penguins... so its hard for me not to buy her them!
I have quite an extensive comic collection that I may bestow onto him when he is old enough. I also have the books that my mother read to me as a child (Serendipity series) and I plan to get more of them. Im glad she kept them for me, since they are even more special since they have doodles I did in them, and my name is probably on every page. It just adds something to it for me.
Ive been racking my brain but can't quite think of anything.
We are doing the Hess trucks.... my grandmother wil be buying one for him every year... although when he starts to understand we might have to buy him two.. I dont want him to play with them lol.
My FIL also collects boxing crap... he has autographed gloves and robes and all sorts of stuff for little one... I have a feeling LO wont like boxing when the time comes... hehe
We're getting him an ornament (or two) each year. Other than that I have bought him 2 Build a Bears so far and plan to get him 1-2 every year so he'll have that collection.
Every Christmas our gift to DD will be a collectable, my parents still buy us one every year. We get Lillian a snowglobe, her first xmas we got her a dumbo engraved snowglobe from disney, this year we are getting the same thing just pooh, when we run out of the disney ones we will move on to other snowglobes. My mom and dad are getting her a precious moment figurine every year for her collectable for their present.
I get a holiday barbie from my parents (since I was born) they are still in the boxes, my brothers get the fancy model cars for display, my husband gets john deer tractor figurines the play ones, my sister in law gets the Elmer horse figurines, the grangirls will all get precious moments, and granboys will get miniture car models.

I dont know if it really counts as a collection, but we keep a bottle of sand from each beach that we visit together and mark the date and place on it. Its fun picking out different funky little bottles.
Who knows, he will probably think its lame and want nothing to do with it when he is older, so maybe the collection is more for me than for him.

We did a nautical theme room for Lincoln, so he inadvertently started collecting ships and boats, etc. My FIL is a boat captain and travels a good bit. When he goes to a new port, he usually picks one up for him. I'm sure he'll be over it by junior high. At that point, we'll put it in the attic with my old point shoes and ballerina collectibles and my husband's baseball cards and sports memorabilia.

I didn't care at all about the books when I was a teen or in my early 20s, they sat in the same box for years. Once my mothers health started to deteriorate they became so special to me, and then once we got pregnant, even more. So they will mean something eventually.
Re: Do you collect anything for LO?
we're not going to collect anything for him besides money lol
seriously though, i'm just not a collecting type of person. i'll start with something but then i get sick of having so many so i get rid of it

DH is collecting Transformers for DS, if that counts lol. He's been buying them since before DS was born.
ETA: We're also doing ornaments, but it isn't a certain series of ornaments or anything, so I don't know if that counts.
