If your parents were deciding between two names for you, what is the name you almost had? What is your name?
For your children, if you were deciding between two names, which name did you almost end up with and which one did you actually end up with?
Thought it might be fun!
Re: S/O "I was supossed to be named..."
My mom told me she almost named me Raven. I ended up a Kimberly. My maiden name is also a common bird name - think Raven Pelican (not my actual maiden name but you get the picture) .
Anna was never meant to be my sole name, my parents always had a double name in mind. However, my mom wanted Anna Flavia or Anna Yolanda.
My father didn't like any of these, so they compromised with Anna Sylvia, for my godmother Sylvia. It turned out the double name didn't really stick once I was in school anyway and my parents didn't insist.
We did this not too long ago, I'm on the hunt for the link It turned out to be pretty entertaining.
ETA: Can't find it, maybe it was deleted? Unsure.
I was supposed to be Stephanie or Brooklyn but my cousin was named Tiffany the week before I was born and my mom didn't want us to rhyme. Brooklyn was axed in the hospital when she heard that the lady in the next room named her child Brooklyn.

My parents thought I was supposed to be a boy so they were going to name me Eugene William, after my dad. On the way to the hospital, my mom turned to my dad and said, "What if it's a girl?" and then gave me the name Samantha.
Not too bad, I guess.

I was supposed to be Heather (his pick) or Jasmine nn Jazz (her pick), but when I was born, mom said I was Angel.
Our daughter was either Emily or Emmeline, and ended up Emmeline...again, waited until we met her. There's something powerful about seeing a nameless, new human and comparing them to the names you think you have settled.

My parents have never mentioned if they had any other girl names planned for me, but they did say that if I had been a boy I would have been named Jason.
I was always the only Joani in class, but if I was a boy I would have been one of many Jasons (can you tell I was a child of the 80s).

I was supposed to be Summer Love Lee. Umm, yeah.
I'm pretty happy with Angela Michelle.
My mom had a few names picked out - Jessica, Elizabeth, or Melissa. She decided on Melissa (which I'm happy with).
I have no children yet so I can't answer your second question.
I was supposed to be Carolyn, but ended up as a Jennifer right before they left the hospital. I like Jennifer MUCH better and I cannot picture myself as Carolyn.
ETA: We honestly weren't considering any other girl names for DD. Sophia/Sophie was the only one we loved and agreed on so that was it.
My mom went between two names, Catrina and Kristen. My biological grandma didn't like Catrina and my Nana (moms mom) hated Kristen. Nana suggested Crystal... and that's who I am now. I hate the name Kristen, so I'm grateful that didn't happen.
For DD we were 100% dead set on Lila Rae. We made the mistake of telling DHs mom and it wasn't that she didn't like it. She LOVED it, to the point that she talked about "Lila" like she were there smiling at her. I walked in the house and I heard her on the phone talking about Lila and I realized that I couldn't already be sick of my daughters name. It obviously wasn't the right name for her. So we told her we were thinking of other names but she had already told the whole family. All DDs cards from that baby shower are written out to "Lila." Thankfully they didn't monogram or personalize anything. We ended up with Brooke Nicole and she couldn't be anything else.
I'm a Michelle and my dad had his heart set on naming me Julie or Julia. But I have an older cousin named Julie. If I were a boy, I would've been named Michael.
For DD, she was always Annika - there were no other candidates. Back before we found out she was a girl, though, we had tossed around "Devon" for a boy (which was then vetoed by my ILs - next time around, I'm banning DH from revealing any potential names to anyone).
I was supposed to be a few things---Hannah and Sloane, most notably. I'm not sure why my parents went with Allie. It might have been to honor my grandparents, Alfred and Carolyn (whose MN, Jo, I share).
If I had been a boy, I would have been named Dylan or Kole (yeah, with a K. My mom thought that was cool).
I'm curious to see if we'll stick to whatever decision we make on names. Probably not. We tend to make last-minute changes.

Everyone including my mom's doctor said I would be a boy (no ultrasound was done) and so I was supposed to be Lucas. When I arrived the doc said I was a girl and my mom said she started balling because she secretly wanted a girl. I ended up with the name Morgan.
For our little one we're going back and forth between Lane Daniel and Beckett Joseph.
My parents were Team Green and wanted to name me Dylan James (after materal grandfather) if I was a boy and since I was a girl I got Chelsea Lela (after my materal grandmother).
My DH is Jason Wayne (after his father), but if he was a girl he was going to be a Kimberly.
My mom wanted to name me Jessica and thankfully my dad vetoed it. My dad wanted to name me Julie or Elise. My mom didn't like Julie because she went to junior high with a druggie named Julie and she just didn't like Elise. They never had a boy name picked out.
Well if I was a boy I would have been Ryan and I was almost a Lindsay.
With DD she would have been Isaac if she was a boy and maybe Evangeline.
For me, it was between Heather and Melissa.
For LO, we had it narrowed down to Sophia, Avery or Sydney. We decided that Sophia was just too popular and Avery was a bit trendy, so ended up with Sydney. I liked the name from the beginning, but like it more and more now since I hardly ever hear it.
My parents could never agree on a first name so I don't know what the possible names were. My grandparents, both sides, ended up naming me Kimberly. I do have two middle names where each parent picked one.
My son Carter was close to being Everett, Collin, Clark (vetoed due to our last name), Corey II and Maurice. In the end My H wanted him to have the same initials as him (as his are the same as his dad's) so we went with the C names and decided on Carter.

If I were a boy, I would have been John (Yianni, really, since we're Greek). I don't think there were any other names for me picked out as a girl.
We were between two names for our DS, the other being Simon. He SO does not look like a Simon to me!
I was originally going to be named Ashley. My parents changed their minds at the last minute and I was named Kimberly.
Charlotte was the only girl name we had chosen.

I am sorry but Jessibell is a terrible name. Sounds like Jezebel from the bible. Aren't you glad you are having to spend the rest of your life telling people your name isn't Jezebel ?

My mom was deciding between Laura and Jenny (b/c of the soap operas "All My Children" and "General Hospital"). She went with Jenny. If I was a boy, I would have been Jonathan.
We only ever had 1 girl name, and when #1 was a boy, we just saved it for #2. The same for our boy name. We went into the hospital knowing exactly what our child's name was going to be.
I was supposed to be Sophie or Autumn. I ended up Jessica:)
My sister was supposed to be Linsday but my dad thought it sounded like a dog's name (he's an idiot) so she is Lauren.
