Help with constipation...

So my DS woke up this morning very cranky, which is not like him he is usually very happy. I soon found out why...he was doing his usual stand if front of me and grunt and groan before he poops, however this time he started to whine and i could tell it hurt. I changed him and there was only a couple little hard balls in his diaper. Ever since he is just laying on my chest trying to poo and whining with no result. I am giving him prune juice. Does anyone have any other methods that might help him? I feel so bad for him. If i cant get some relief for him soon i am going to call the pedi.

Re: Help with constipation...

  • Prunes and prune juice always helped for my DS and make sure you're not feeding him constipating type foods - bananas, rice etc.  I've also had to "help" it out with a highly lubed q-tip.  It sucks to have to revert to that, but on occasion I've had to do that.

  • Any "P" food helps loosen things (pears, plums, prunes, peaches). You can also give a pedialax laxative (OTC) once per day to help him go since it sounds like it is a bit painful for him.

I would also avoid bananas and cheese for a day or two.

  • Gripe water also helps.
  • Prune juice works well for DS.  DS loves raisins, so I give them to him every day to prevent issues.  He can eat all the cheese and bananas he wants, as long as he has some raisins.  And lots of water.
