So I hit my goal... what does Lifetime get me? Last time I hit goal, I just cancelled my membership. Why should I pay them to "maintain" for the next 6 weeks?
(I mean besides the obvious, that I can keep on plan, etc etc etc...)

Lifetime means just that, you are a member for life. As a Lifetime member, you will need to weigh in once a month to keep your membership current. As long as you are within 2 pounds of your goal weight, you won't have to pay anything. No membership fees, nothing. If you're more than 2 pounds away, then you pay to attend meetings until you again reach your goal.
I'm not sure how all of this works in the context of the online program, though. I don't know if they waive the membership fee, or what, but I'd imagine you would still have to weigh in monthly to make sure you were at goal (or within 2 pounds).
I guess the point is the accountability of weighing in to help you maintain your weight, but I do know you don't have to pay. Then, should you ever need regain weight and need the program, all you would need to do is cover the fees for the weekly meetings, not have to pay the registration fee again.
I think the reason they have the six weeks of maintenance is for people like me. I reached my goal back in the day, then I struggled to maintain, and kept going up and up again. So, I reached my goal, but never reached lifetime, then I got pregnant and quit WW. And now, like a huge slap in the face, EVERY TIME they pull up my info when I weigh-in at WW, they're like "oh, it says here you're eligible for lifetime membership.." then they look at me and my extra 20 lbs of fat I'm still carrying around, and scratch their heads in confusion.
