What do you pay for your Christmas tree?

I think DH and I have been getting ripped off.....

We used to buy our tree from his school's tree lot (so granted it is a fundraiser).  We would pay around $60 for a 6-8ft. Fraser Fir, and that was after the $20 discount he would get as a faculty member!

Since he no longer works there (or gets the discount) I think we need to rethink our plans.

  • We have faux trees, so I honestly don't know what the going rate for Christmas trees is.  :(  sorry!

  • We got our tree from Lowe's last year and I think we paid around $20-30.  It was a nice tree. I'm not sure if it was a Fraser or not, but their trees were pretty reasonable.
  • I was just talking about this with my boss. She pays $35 for a 6' Fraser Fir but said that this is roughly half the cost of other tree farms in our area. She said she drives a little farther out to get the deal.

  • In the past, Abe and I would get a White Pine from a local tree farm for around $35-40. This year, we decided to spring for a Balsam. Yeah... It was nearly $60. I about crapped my pants. Unless it has a root ball attached, a tree should never cost that much! We'll be going back to a White Pine next year.
  • $60 sounds about right for a fir tree at a lot.  They are about half that price at places like Lowe's or Home Depot.

  • Thanks ladies!  I think we will save some $$ this year and go to Lowe's/Home Depot.  That way we can really splurge at farms when Annie is old enough to remember going to get the tree together.

  • We used to go to a local christmas tree lot and our 7ft. fir trees would usually be around $35-$45.

  • We went to Piney Acers in Fortville. We paid 41 for a scotch pine that we cut ourselves, they were 6.50 a foot, but we came home with a 71/2 foot blue pine that was 10.00/ a foot, silly tree tying guy! While my hubby was paying tho he said all these people in line had coupons for 50.00 off! I guess they do some kind of internet discount around Nov.8th, I'll post the website later, Im at work now and its in my pocket at home. Wont work this year but we will be using it for next year!
