Diarrhea question

DD just had her 3rd blowout in a row (i think). 2 yesterday afternoon and 1 today. At point should i be worried she has diarrhea and might be sick? Sorry if this is a stupid question...she's only been sick like 2 or 3 times ever! She doesn't have a fever. Any thoughts?

Re: Diarrhea question

  • does she have a fever, is she acting listless? If not, I wouldn't worry, it might be a new food that was introduced or something she ate. Just make sure she is hydrated with water (sorry, I hate pedialyte and I think the chemicals and fake sugar makes things worse, but I know I am in the minority) or popsicles.

Nope, no fever, not listless. She's a little clingier and being fussy, but more like tantrumy.I thought maybe she's just starting the separation anxiety phase. She's also not eating as well at all. I might try the popsicle idea, though it's an all natural fruit kind...I wonder if fruit would just make it worse :-/.

  • Fruit and diarhea is not a good mix.  Diarhea can be serious so you need to keep an eye on it, but if she's otherwise normal - ie eating and sleeping as usual, I wouldn't worry too much.  DD is not a fan of Pedialyte and she won't eat popsicles (weirdo!) we give her diluted apple juice when she has an upset stomach, but plain water is good too.

  • I call my pediatrician all the time - if you are worried they can calm your mind.  I make my own baby food and the recipe website I use describes which fruits/veggies are best to alleviate diarrhea/constipation.  I believe bananas are known to cause constipation (my doc recommends them for diarrhea).  Hope she feels better soon!
