I am planning on going all natural and I would love to do a water birth.... because of this, I have just switched from GBMC to Mercy Hosp and I have an appointment with Kathleen Slone CNM in a couple weeks. I wanted to know if anyone else has been to her practice and or Mercy... any thoughts, feedback? Has anyone had a water birth there or naturally? I want someone who is going to be there for me and totally supportive of my birth plan.
Thanks in advance!
Re: Feedback on Kathleen Slone CNM / Mercy Hosp??
Hello,
First of all, I've heard nothing but great things about Kathleen Slone and her team. I used a doula and she raved about her. I met with one of her colleagues but I decided to stick with my OB/GYN. The doctors and staff at Mercy really respect her and so I think you would be totally supported on anything you'd want to do.
Secondly, I had my son at Mercy and LOVED them!! I gave birth the day after the second blizzard in February, so much of the staff had been there for a couple of days and despite that, everyone was very helpful, nice and patient. I wanted natural childbirth and with my doulas help was able to do just that. None of the staff even brought up pain medication. The mother baby ward nurses were wonderful and also very knowledgeable and helpful. My husband and I felt totally supported and cared for.
So in conclusion, I think you can't go wrong with Kathy Sloan and Mercy. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to contact me. ayrikawhite at hotmail dot com
I do know someone who birthed there naturally. She had a 10 1/2 or 11 pound baby, no drugs, normal birth. So it can be done and they are supportive. She said no one mentioned anything about drugs or a c-section for a "big" baby, she was happy with her birth.
I have heard of someone who switch from them to another place to have her baby and went into early labor before she had seen the other provider, and Kathy Slone told her she still could have called and they would have helped her delivery the baby (she ended up at Mercy anyway, just with an OB she hadn't met before)
These are strange examples, but it seems that people that use them are happy and she seems to care about her patients.
Honestly they are on my radar in case my other midwife starts pushing more medical interventions, which is starting to happen now that I am closer to my due date, I may still consider switching to them and I am 33 weeks.
