We've finally agreed on a name we like, but are concerned that the first and last names (no middle) will mush into one long name. I'm not giving out the exact name we're thinking of but "Josh Sheldon" would be close for the "mushing" issue we're worried about.
Thanks in advance for the help! Any comments appreciated too.
Re: Help with Baby Name- Do these mush together?
That's a good point. I'm a little worried we'll have a little boy named "Baby" if we don't get this sorted out

I don't think Josh Sheldon is a bad choice - especially if you like it. People work past much worse names than one that mushes. The same soft sounds together are harder to distinguish than two hard sounds together, like John Newton.
Ask yourself how often the two names will be said together. Maybe it isn't an issue?
Or, what about John? It is Josh-like...solid name, works with Sheldon...
Good luck.
Thanks for the input lilycat. The whole issue of not saying your full name often is a sticking point on the whole mess. While we don't say it often, DH thinks that saying a mushy name over a lifetime could be frustrating.
This isn't actually the name we're considering, but it gets at the mushy sound/issue we're worried about. I didn't want to give out the real name because it's very specific to our ethnicity and pretty identifying. Thanks for the rec though!

Ja Sheldon is exactly what I was thinking when I read that.
Up until very recently I thought that the journalist Paula Zahn was actually Paul Lazahn. I finally saw her on tv and was surprised! lol
LOL! Alright, I'm going to try to find a new name. Ja just won't cut it!
Thanks y'all!

I think that example shows that they don?t even have to be similar sounds at the end/beginning for people to not be able to distinguish it. I?ve never heard of the name Lazahn. It?s not that it?s not feasible ? zahn is also uncommon (to me) so why not lazahn?
My name is Michelle (well it?s actually my middle name but it?s the one I go by).
Michelle is a VERY common name in many countries, in fact. Might be pronounced slightly differently in one country or another, but it?s common.
I can?t tell you HOW often I have had to distinguish to someone on the phone that my name is not Miss Shell. It?s Mi chelle. Seriously, it would go,
?Ok m?am, what is your first name??
?Michelle?
?Sorry ? Miss Shell, what is your first name?
?My first name is Michelle.?
?Oh sorry ? Miss Shell, ok what is your last name??
?[last name]?
?Ok I have here ? Shell [last name] ? and you prefer Miss to Missus??
?No, my name is Michelle. M-i-c-h-e-l-l-e [last name]. Mrs. Michelle [last name.]
?Oh how interesting that your parents would name you Michael and pronounce it that way.?
Seriously? And yes, this has happened MULTIPLE times. Also funny was when my maiden name was Jackson and everyone in france who took my reservation thought it was hilarious that Michael Jackson was staying in a hostel.
If you like the name, do NOT worry about it. No matter what name you pick, someone will screw it up so your kid will have to learn to deal no matter what. J
Congratulations again on the pregnancy!

This is just further proof that people in general are stupid.
The Michael Jackson thing is hilarious. It reminds me of a friend I went all the way through school with who had the same problem, only opposite. His name was Michael, but invariably if we had a substitute teacher she'd pronounce his name Michelle when roll was called. It drove him crazy, and it happened many times in the various grades and schools we went through together.
CharlotteL is right - so many people are practically illiterate.
MB aka Miss Shell, I am ROLLING!!!! lol!!
