Hi Ladies. My DS is 4 months (weighs about 17 lbs) and I EBF. While Im at work, he goes to daycare and takes three (pumped) bottles. I've been giving him 6 ozs or a little more in each bottle, but I keep reading posts where 4-5 mos are getting 8 oz bottles. DS eats every three hours or so (I BF him once in the morning and ususally twice at night) and doesn't seem to be hungry when he's finished eating. Should I be giving him more??
Re: How many ozs in 4 mo's bottles?
My four-month-olds drink anywhere between 3 and 7 ounces of BM per bottle feeding, with the average being about 5, and eat about as often as yours during the day. They sleep long stretches at night, so our total number of feedings per day is 6-7. I let them eat until they seem satisfied. I don't stress over the smaller bottles, because sometimes they have bigger ones, and vice versa. I'm not positive what our total ounces per day would be because I nurse when I'm with them, but they average 15 ounces over the three feedings the nanny gives them, which is about right.
Point is, I definitely don't think you need to start making your baby 8-oz bottles. Sounds to me like you're doing fine.
DS will be 4 months friday and eats three to four 5 - 5/12 oz bottles of pumped BM during the day (between 6:30am - 4pm) and I nurse him twice at night (usually when we get home between 4:30 and 5:30, depending on his last feeding, and once after his bath, around 7:30). He gets about 15-20 oz during the day and whatever he gets when nursing (I'm guessing another 4-5 oz each time) so I'm guessing it's about 25 - 35 oz a day.
I plan on asking if this is an ok amount at his 4 mo visit next week.
