LO SSN Question

So, this isn't really a military question, but maybe some of you ladies have gone through this before and can point me in the right direction.

My DD was born at Fort Bragg two weeks before we PCSed to Fort Benning. We were told at the hospital that we would receive her SSN by the time she was 4 months old. Well, it's been over 5 months, and we haven't received anything. We put in a change of address at the post office when we moved, but I know sometimes certain documents can't be forwarded due to security reasons.

I checked the SSA website and it says to contact our local SS office if we haven't received a SSN within the allotted time. My question is: Should I attempt to call the SS office in the state where DD was born, or would a local SS office where we live now be able to help?

SS stuff can be so confusing and I just thought I'd ask for advice before shooting in the dark...

TIA!

Re: LO SSN Question

  • I'd call the office in the state where your daughter was born. They can tell you if they sent it out or not. They should also be able to advise you on how to proceed from here. GL!

  • I agree about going to your local SS office....the computer system is national, so they'll be able to help you out easily! Good luck!!

Perfect. Shouldn't be too hard, then.

    Thanks for your input, everyone!
