Babies: 6 - 9 Months

Anyone put their baby to sleep on their belly?

DS automatically rolls to his side/almost belly.  Lately, he cries the second we put him on his back and rolls back and forth.  Last night I found him on his belly.  Tonight I put him on his belly and he didn't budge...any thoughts.  He is 6 months old, rolls both ways and is starting to go up on knees.

  • I have put DS on his belly since he was born (and he was a preemie) - don't turn me in!  He has always slept so much better that way.  Now that he is a roller and mover, I just let me go down however he wants - he ends up turned around half the time anyway.  And I do think it's officially "okay" to put your LO on his tummy once he can roll both ways.

  • Matthew has slept on his belly since he was 4 months old. I would lay him on his back and he would roll onto his belly. As long as their isn't something he could get tangled in I think it would be fine.

  • We do.  Livy screams the min we lay her on her back.  She has really bad reflux and also has an extra bone at the base of her spine.  I don't know if that affects it, but either way...we stopped fighting that battle long ago.  She's been able to roll over since she was a couple months old and it was pointless to put her on her back since the first thing she did was roll over.

This for us too. As soon as he could roll onto his belly - he was doing it on his own. We lay him down on his back, he automatically rolls to his side, and ends up on his belly shortly after. He moves a lot in his sleep.

  • I've been putting her on her belly since 5 months.  She won't sleep any other way.
  • Since DS was born I have. At first I was hesitant, but that is the only way he'd sleep for longer stretches. I think at 6 months old he'd be fine since he can roll.

  • I have always let DD nap on her belly, but at night I put her down on her back until she could roll both directions.  Now she goes down on her belly, and usually winds up on her back by morning.
  • Once they can roll there's no reason not to put them how they feel comfortable. He'll be fine.
