Esotropia or Exotropia

Anyone's LO's diagnosed with either of these?  Esotropia=crossed eyes. Exotropia=outward directed eyes.  Just curious because DS's pedi asked us to see a pediatric opthamologist for an exam to determine if he has esotropia.  To look at our DS we cannot "see" any "misdirection" of either eye.  It is by NO MEANS severe...in other words, you can't tell with your naked eye that he may have any offset in either eye.  But the pedi said it is worth it to have it checked out.  We obviously agree and have set up an appointment.  If anyone has dealt with this diagnosis for your LO (whether it be minor or severe) could you please tell of your experience?  Looking for what the exam entails and what, if any, corrective procedures took place.  Thank you so much!

No, but i have amblyopia with one outward-wandering eye. My parents were told i would have to have surgery when i got older, but we moved when i was 9 and the new eye doctor believed in vision therapy instead, which i did intensely for a while and avoided surgery.  It only acts up now when i'm REALLY tired.

Thanks for responding!  Hey I think I remember you from either Babies on the Brain forum or one of the trimester forums maybe.  I always recognized your Punky Brewster picture!  Used to LOVE that show.  Remember her bed that looked like a huge wheelbarrow that tilted back?  lol
