I saw the Bananafish Migi Pinwheel 4 pc Crib Bedding set in aqua on a nursery website and thought it would be perfect for a gender neutral nursery. Of course it has been discontinued and they now only sell it in lavendar. I have been having such a hard time finding bedding that I like because my husband does not want to know the sex. I love the color aqua and felt like I could accent it with pink for a girl and green if I have a boy but finding a bedding set that would allow me to do that has seemed impossible. Does anyone know of a website where someone might be selling a set they didn't use? Or a site where discontinued bedding might be available?
Re: Neutral Crib Bedding emergency
I don't know about this set, but I'm selling my crib bedding set and it's neutral. It's sage green and off white with cute farm animals. It's really cute and in great condition. I can send a picture if you're interested.
Also, try ebay for the set you mentioned above. Or get solid colored bedding pieces separately instead of a set. Lots of stores sell the pieces separately now. You don't really need all of the things that come in the sets anyway.
I wouldn't quite call this an "emergency"
Go to Target - they have lots of cute, non-gender specific crib bedding. You don't need all the stuff - mine is all sitting in DD closet unused.
I'd agree with Kathryn - check out some of the big box retailers' sites (Target, BRU, Buy Buy Baby, WalMart). They bring in new merchandise constantly. I was team green, too, and found plenty of neutral things through those sources.
I will say, though, that we opted not to get a bedding set because it seemed like such a huge waste of money - we were not willing to use the bumpers b/c of the suffocation risk (we have breathable bumpers on DS's crib now), knew we wouldn't use the comforter b/c we aren't comfortable using loose blankets in the crib, and we bought a convertible crib, which, after you move the mattress off the top setting, would render a crib skirt completely invisible because of the design of the furniture. The only thing that would have been used from a set was the sheet, so we found a bedding set that we liked, bought just the accessories for it (wall art, hamper, etc.) and matching plain sheets, then had blankets made in a variety of sizes (the design has black & white polka dots as part of it, so the blankets are a mix of black & white polka dotted fabric and black minky, which I couldn't find anywhere to buy, hence having them made).
Just another idea if you're not dead-set on needing a bedding set...
... every single day of forever.
If you **need** this set, check craigslist, ebay, and the rest of the online retailers.
I agree with the post about not needing a bedding set. When we were shopping around, most people told me that after the baby comes, they didn't need half the bedding set... We bought the few pieces we wanted--even mixed and matched between sets--and have an incredibly cute nursery. What if you bought a few gender-neutral sheets, and then paint & decorate after the baby's born? You could even shop online while the baby's napping. Or, paint the room aqua, and go with white, off-white, yellow, or green bedding.
Good luck!!
I agree with Kathryn... Most of the stuff is not useful, but we learned that after we all bought it the first time. Comforter baby can't use, bumpers we didn't use, so we could of just bought sheets, mattress pad, curtains and valance seperately and paid a lot less.
I spent $200 on crib bedding that can't be used... My bumpers had the two sets of ties, so they actually wouldn't be suffication hazards if we wanted to use them. Unfortunately, what I didn't think about was that the crib we have is a "lifetime" crib that converts to a toddler bed and a full sized bed. It has a regular headboard (with no slats) and posts at the 4 corners so a bumper wouldn't work with that crib at all.
If you really "have" to have it (like I did!) then look at e-bay or another re-sale source. But, like PP siad, you probably won't use it nearly as much as you think!
