4:30 am insomnia & restricted fetal growth

I've been up since 3:30 PST it is now almost 5am. I had my OB appt yesterday and found out that lil one is not growing. At 32 weeks she was 2 weeks behind. I had another growth ultrasound yesterday and she is now 3 weeks behind. I am officially on modified bed rest and will have another stress test on thursday. Next monday I go in for my weekly appointment and another ultrasound. If lil one does not grow in the next week my OB will be inducing...at 36 weeks 6 days....I am so not ready...its too soon! I know she will be considered full term which I'm grateful that we have gotten to this point  but I'm so worried. Why is she not growing? My OB thinks its a placenta issue....but why? Is there some other underlying health issue? I've been racking my brain all night. I know that stressing doesn't make the situation any better but I can't help worrying. I have had a completely uneventful pregnancy until now but I can't help thinking that my body is letting lil one down.

Thanks for the vent girls... just needed to express some thoughts out loud.

  • It was nothing you did! My baby was IUGR too and I was so worried it was something I caused. My docs thought it was a placental issue too. None of it is your fault. Don't google!

My doctor ended up delivering my baby at 36 weeks 2 days. She is doing just great and she went from gaining only a few ounces every couple weeks, to gaining almost a pound a week. Sometimes they just grow better outside.

I am sure your baby will be just fine. If they were really worried, they would have probably delivered your baby now. Good luck and I am sending growing vibes your way!

I had an uneventful and easy pregnancy too and completely understand the sentiment that you feel like you are letting you baby down. I felt so bad that my body wasn't helping her grow enough, but like I said, she is doing awesome now.

  • I am on bedrest for the same reason. I totally understand what you are going through!!! Don't worry it is nothing that you did and it is awesome that they are finding it all now and figuring out options for ou. I am being montiored as well and it kinda stressful because you just don't know when the day will come and they tell you that they will take her. Take it easy and try to enjoy bedrest a little. I have really been able to focus on the postives on what is going on when I don't have sooo much other crap to think about. Good luck and know you are not alone and all of us here are for ya if you need to talk!!!

  • Thank you all for all the thoughts and prayers. I finally went back to sleep and feel a little bit calmer now. Just hearing your own experiences with this definately makes me feel like I'm not alone. Now I just need to figure out how to stay entertained on bedrest Smile
  • I'm sorry you're going through this. I just got similar news this morning and I'm still trying to come to terms with it. I'll keep you in my thoughts and prayers.
  • I'm sorry you have to go through this! My LO was measuring behind and unevenly at one point- her body was lagging behind her head and they were concerned about IUGR. Luckily she bounced back when they checked her three weeks later.

I'm sure your LO will do great, though, and it's awesome that you've made it this far! Hang in there!
