Midwife Delivery At St. Joe's?

I am most likely moving down to the Towson area when I will be about 36 weeks pregnant with my first child.  Currently, I was seeing a team of midwives, and had planned to deliver with them.  I tried researching this option at GBMC, but it didn't appear as though delivery by a midwife was available.  Assuming that is correct, has anyone delivered with midwives at St, Joe's?  How was the experience, if so?  I'm so nervous to be switching so late in my very 1st pregnancy...

Thanks a lot for any insight.

  • My OB practice has one midwife on staff that delivers at GBMC. I know there are other practices that are similar. I go to ObGyn Specialists of Maryland, a lot of girls on the board recommend them and the midwife Jeanette was amazing throughout my whole pregnancy and I see her for GYN care as well.

  • I delivered at St Joe's, but did not use a midwife... but I wanted to chime in to say that I did work with one of their midwives while I was in L&D.  I went in as an induction (only to find out I was already in active labor, thus rendering the induction unnecessary...) and because of that, I went in while my OB was still doing daytime appts, so one of their midwives (and a student-midwife) were the ones keeping tabs on me while my OB was out.  The midwife that I dealt with was very matter-of-fact in her interactions with me, but very nice and informational.  Unfortunately, I do not recall her name anymore!  I had a great experience w/SJMC overall and would recommend them to anyone.
  • Thank you both so much for answering!  I think I must've assumed that GBMC did not use midwives, based upon the language on their website.  I really appreciate the recommendations; I'll defintiely check them out.  It's very overwhelming to be trying to get all of this together, so thank you again for your help!!!

  • If you are interested in birthing in a hospital setting w/ midwives I recommend Kathy Sloan's group.  She delivers at Mercy Hospital.  If you don't mind a birth center option, we have two great ones - Special Beginnings and Bay Area Midwifery.  I know for a fact that SB has had people transfer to them at 36 weeks.

  • I am 21 weeks pregnant and go to Women's Health Associates. It is a group of 5 or 6 midwives who deliver at St Joe's. I have seen Mary Knauer and Monique Klapka and both are wonderful. I also had to oppurtunity to work with this practice while I was in nursing school and they are all great.
