December 2010 Moms

I had my baby (PsIP)

At my appointment last Wednesday, my doctor sent me to L&D for tests and observation because I'd been having headaches, swelling, and high blood pressure.  After getting the results of the tests, he concluded it was gestational hypertension, not pre-eclampsia.  However, with that and my gestational diabetes, my doctor wasn't comfortable letting me go home, even with bed rest.  I stayed in the hospital on bed rest until he induced early Saturday morning.  I was 37 weeks, 1 day pregnant, and he felt the benefits outweighed the risks of keeping me pregnant.  I was very nervous, but I felt confident that he was doing what was best for me and my baby.

After 13 hrs of labor, my dilation arrested at 5 cm.  I was completely effaced and at 0 position, but I was stuck at 5 cm dilated for over 6 hrs.  So, I had a c-section, and Logan was born at 9:09pm on Saturday, 11/27.  He was 6 lbs, 7 oz and 19 7/8 in long.

Logan is absolutely wonderful.  He's already got his own little personality.  We had a little trouble with feeding the first couple of days, but I met with the lactation consultant yesterday, and since then, he's been doing wonderfully!  We've been supplementing with a little formula because we had to make sure he had plenty of food because of my gestational diabetes. My milk is starting to come in now, so I think he'll be exclusively on breastmilk very soon. I was concerned about him being able to feed well because he was born at 37 weeks, but he's got a great sucking reflex.  He does get a little lazy, but I'm usually able to wake him up and get him going again.

I'm sore from the surgery, but I'm healing well.  My husband is absolutely wonderful with helping me with Logan and helping me with the things I need.  He is completely wrapped around Logan's little finger.  Honestly, so am I.  :)

So, here are pictures of my rogue December baby!
