I was at my dentist yesterday for a cleaning and I asked him about brushing baby's teeth. DISCLAIMER: These were his views, not mine.
He said besides a toothbrush, a wash cloth is fine, the finger cot style brushes are also good too. The flouride free toothpaste really doesn't have any benefit besides adding flavor to get them interested. He then said that I should get her on a flouride toothpaste and use a small pea size amount. I was a little shocked because I thought we were supposed to stay away from fluoride paste. Mind you he wasn't a pediatric dentist so I plan to keep using fluoride free for now. He also said that 4 years old it a good time to get them in for their first appointment...once they have all 20 baby teeth in.
I just thought it was interesting to get another perspective besides the pediatrician's.

We took DD to a pediatric dentist and he said no fluoride toothpaste for kids 2 and under. I'm sure there are alot of different views on this though.

This...I want her to get into the habit. We "brush" her teeth twice a day.
