If sleep begets sleep in your house

...when (if ever) did this end?  DS has been a good sleeper since about 6 months.  11 hours at night and 2-3 hour nap during the day.  We have always followed sleep begets sleep and it has worked.  Over the past month or so, DS has been waking really early no matter when we put him to bed.  He naps fine...about 3 hours...but then we can put him to bed anytime between 7 and 8:30 and he is waking up between 5-6am (used to be 6:30).  I am hoping its just a phase or maybe 2 year molars.  Any suggestions??  Can anyone relate??

Re: If sleep begets sleep in your house

  • Yes. We got him the Okay to Wake clock and it's worked wonders. He was waking up and just thinking it was time to get up (which it wasn't), so this clock did the trick.
  • Loading the player...
  • We started pushing the bedtime to 8 or 8:30, and wake him if he sleeps past 4pm at naptime (he usually goes down around 2pm.)  That has done the trick at our house.

    Good luck!

  • Yes!  We started putting DS down for bed at night 30 minutes later (around 8pm).  It takes him a long time to fall asleep.  We also make sure that his naps do not go past 2 hours or later than 3:30pm, and he has started sleeping till like 7am again

  • It sounds like his naps are a little too long - we usually wake DD after about 2 hours - she will then sleep 11 hours at night.
