I am making a list for my 27 weeks pregnant next door neighbor - and drawing a BLANK. OMG - I forgot what you need when you have a new baby. Help!
I want to help her sort through the crazy, inflated BRU list of "must haves" and help her narrow it down (she asked me to, so it's not just me being a controlling weirdo, at least not in this instance.) And when I say narrow it down, I mean give her the "real" list but also the fun stuff and favorites too (so not just the bare bones list.) That makes no sense but hopefully you know what I mean. OK so just tell me what you liked, had to have, are so glad you had because it made life so much easier, etc. "Don't bothers" are good to list to! Include brand names or other specifics if you can. Thanks!

Re: Quick! Your favorite necessary (and unnecessary) new baby things!
Itzbeen timer (this is a 'love it' or 'waste of money' item, I for one, could not live without it)
Halo sleepsack
FP Lamb Swing
Bouncer seat
Born Free bottles
TTC#2=July 2011: Surprise BFP: Chemical Pregnancy
Swing
Moby Wrap
Basic Evenflo Glass Bottles with Latex nipples (I hate silicone)
Lansinoh (especially if you're BF'ing)
Disposable Breast Pads (if BFing)
Old Navy onesies (my fave by far! Don't waste your time with Gerber or store brand)
MAM pacifiers (again, tried them all - this is the best for BFing IMO)
Swaddle Design swaddling Blanket (https://www.swaddledesigns.com/cgi/commerce.cgi?display=home)
1 premie (they run big) Swaddle Me
1 small Swaddle Me (avail at BRU) - I'd buy in fleece if a winter babe
Aquaphor (but I would rather use Lansinoh because its natural)
Burt's Bees Apricot Oil (amazon only really anymore - but its AMAZING for butts and make sure to lube your baby's butt up GOOD with SOME oil before 1st diaper)
That's all I can think of right now - I'll add more if I think of it.
Well, I hated the bumbo because my son was too chunky for it, but it good for DD who is skinnier. Not a must have though..
Swaddling blanket and sleep sacks. I couldn't live without my halo sleep sacks. We don't swaddle much but just in the beginning.
Bouncer
Play pen/bassinet combo
activity mat
TONS of good snack that you won't get sick of. You need easy food those 1st few weeks (or months!). Fruit salad (just buy it cut because its such a pain in the a$$ to cut up - especially when you're tired!), trail mix, small packages of pre-cut apple slices (costco has these), veggies with dip, beef jerky, PB for on top of toast/english muffin/bagels, instant oatmeal that you like, frozen fruit and yogurt to throw together a smoothie (Trader Joe's has great frozen berry combos), yogurt cups, apple sauce, string cheese....etc.
Had to have: boppy! Not necessary, but defianlty a NEED.
Skip: wipe warmer

TTC Journey Over~ Not By Choice
Swaddleme
gerber cloth diapers - for spit up. i bought these and some cute fabric and made some fancy ones!
Bibs - a multipack of the cotton ones
NB size clothes and diapers. 0-3 were way too big for E and she was 8lbs.
Aden and Anais blankets
Soothie binkies
i think it is worth registering for sippys, spoons, bowls
loved my snap n go and my graco snugride 32 - e is still fitting in it now!
Sandra Boynton books - love her!!
The food suggestions are so good!! Brilliant.
But for baby stuff:
* burp cloths - I use cloth diapers - buy a TON
* carseat - I'm one of those people who is going to get sick of toting DS around in a heavy carseat pretty soon, so I personally wouldn't go with the bigger graco seats - just the regular snugride is fine (though we got the extra cushy one - gracopedic)
* bundle me - I have the toddler sized one for the stroller, but if DS was going to stay in his snugride longer into the winter, I would get one for that
* snap n go - the maclaren one is great (I'm currently borrowing a friend's)
* other stroller - very much a personal preference item
* kimono style shirts (Gerber are fine) until the umbilical cord falls off, after that, Old Navy onesies are great - I wish I had found them sooner
* primo eurobath tub (works for infants and toddlers)
* baby k'tan - I love it!
* swaddle mes and sleep sacks
* the small haba wood toys are great for early clutching (we have this and one other I can't find a link for, but they make a lot of great ones)
* tiny love toys for on the carseat handle and in the stroller
* happiest baby on the block dvd
* diaper accessories - changing pad (i have and like the summer four sided one), cover (boppy), diaper genie
* terry cloth bibs for spit up - longer is better, but the basic BRU ones were fine for us
* gymini
* bouncer seat and swing
* wet bags to keep in the diaper bag
* lots of BFing and formula jazz depending on what she wants to do
- soothies!!, pads, pump, lansinoh lanolin, lansinoh bags, boppy and 2 covers for BFing
- formula dispenser, pitcher for formula
* not necessary immediately, but i'm learning that i love the sassy spoons (these) for early feedings, since they are totally flexible
* FP space saver high chair
* crib sheet cover (we have two of these that we rotate)
* lots of board books
* Will didn't go for it, but lots of people love that homedics baby crack machine
more personal preference items: born free bottles, MAM pacifiers - if you're going to use them, and I'm a big proponent of plain white petroleum jelly on the butt at every diaper change (knock on wood - DS and his other friend at daycare who does this have never had diaper rashes)
I'm now looking at this list, wondering how all of this stuff fits in my house!!
Such a tiny little man - so many accessories!!
moby
big swaddle blankets
crack machine
wipes warmer (hey, do you want cold wipes on your butt??)
My Brest Friend
Nursing covers
Breastfeeding books - ones by Jack Newman, Sears, LLL, etc.
My Baby Nest/Beco Butterfly
Wetbags (even if not CD'ing)
Books - we got a ton (probably at least 100), which is awesome because they are expensive.
Spacesaver highchair
Snugride/snap'n'go
Dr. Brown bottles + preemie nipples (slow flow for BFing)
second set of pumping parts (if working - I got mine for cheap from a local LC)
Arm's reach co-sleeper
Baby crack machine
I really like the look of the skiphop bags, but never got one - I am looking at the Go Gaga bags now. I got this (https://www.toysrus.ca/product/index.jsp?productId=3913308) on clearance for $30, so I just went with it.
Halo sleepsacks - we still use the early walker ones
Baby gates - at least for the completion discount
Johnson's Naturals baby wash (cheaper than CA Baby, but still without the bad stuff)
Triple Paste/Infant Tylenol/Mylicon/TriViSol
I love the baby cubes for cutting up/storing/freezing finger food and I used them for purees when she only ate half a jar (or if I made some).
Mesh feeders (for ice cubes or frozen yogurt)
