Bleeding

Yesterday, I had an appointment, but my OB had to cancel due to another delivery. So, I got stuck with the nurse practitioner. She did my internal pelvic exam, told me I was dilated 1 cm, and that the baby had dropped, etc., and I was on my way.

When I got home (a 10 minute drive), I had already bled through my pants, and (TMI) filled the toilet with bright red blood! It was shocking to see so much blood, but I decided not to freak and see what would happen. It kept up like this for a good two hours, and I actually started passing clots of blood, so I finally called to see if this was normal irritation from a pelvic exam. They sent me to L&D (sigh...). Everything turned out to be fine, baby looked good, everything pointed to cervical irritation, and it eventually let up, but man alive! The nurse practitioner really did some damage down there!

Has anyone else bled this much from an internal?

    Wow, that's awful!  Glad you got checked, since it does sound concerning, but good that everything is okay.  I haven't had an internal yet, but hopefully that's not normal!

    My first internal led to a slight brownish discharge is all. My second didn't cause any bleeding. I'm sorry yours was so scary!

    That sounds horrible. Glad it ended well.

    Never heard of that much bleeding from an exam before....

    I had 3 internals before I went into labor and never had bleeding like that!  I did have a little reddish/brownish discharge from one but never any serious bleeding.  Glad everything is ok and that you got checked!

    Oh my gosh, nope.  My first internal led to some blood tinged discharge but not actual blood.  I think I would have freaked out a little. Glad everything is okay.

    i had the almost exact same thing happen to me last monday on my first internal exam...lots of blood came out as soon as i took two steps to get to my bottoms.  some clotting gooey looking stuff in the whole mess as well...went to L&D for monitoring and everything was A-okay.  scary as heck though, my husband freaked!!
